The Surprise of a Lifetime

Hostage

As Olivia stepped into the house the door slammed behind her and she was shoved to the floor. Someone had taken her gun from its holster. She momentarily tried to get her bearing when she realized that Matt Brewer was standing over her.

His body was covered in sweat and she could smell the alcohol on him. She knew she was in a bad situation and she just hoped that Fin would realize what was happening before it was too late. She started trying to talk when she felt a sharp sting on her cheek. The room went black.

When she came too she was tied to a chair. Looking around she noticed a woman who she identified as Andrea Patterson, Matt Brewer's sister. She also noticed the 2 children who were huddled together behind the woman. Finally finding Brewer she realized that he was pacing. The windows were all shut both blinds and curtains.

As Olivia got her mind straightened out her phone started to ring but she didn't know where it was. Turns out it was across the room by Brewer.

Finally getting a grip on everything Live spoke, "The best think you can do for yourself right now is answer the phone. They are trying to communicate with you. As long as they know I'm ok they won't push in."

Brewer turned, looking at Olivia as if she just cussed his unborn children. The pure rage and hatred she felt just from his looks shook her to the core. Looking back at Andrea she noticed all of the bruises on her, thankfully it looked as though the children were untouched.

"I mean it. You want to answer that. They will keep calling until you do." She said confidently yet calmly.

"If she would have just said yes this wouldn't be happening right now! She's the love of my life and she laughed at me! Who does she think she is?!" He yelled.

Liv decided that she needed to think of a new plan to get him to calm down as much as she could get him too.

Fin was waiting for hostage negotiators to show up while the SWAT team set up a perimeter and NYPD stopped traffic.

Once the negotiators arrived they kept calling the captains phone. When that didn't work Fin had an idea. He pulled out the files that had everything they knew about both Brewer and his sister. They tried calling Brewer first. After the first ring they had finally got him to answer.

"What the hell do you want?!" Brewer yelled.

Negotiators were able to get all the information of everyone that was in the house. They also were able to get Andrea and her children out. As they got Andrea and her children a safe distance away Fin was able to talk her about what was going on inside.

"I was able to untie the knots of the woman inside. Matt didn't see me do it. He took her gun though so I don't know what's going to happen," she was explaining.

Suddenly they heard gunshots come from inside the house. SWAT moved in with Fin not far behind them. Upon entry the Captain and Brewer were both on the ground. Liv was able to get the jump on him. None of his shots hit her but he had managed to hit her during the struggle causing her to bleed.

Fin walked over just in time to see Liv cuff Brewer and get up. Leading his Captain to the ambulance for treatment and to be evaluated she kept protesting

"I'm fine Fin really. Nothing some pain meds won't fix right up." Liv exclaimed.

"Sorry Cap but the cut on your arm needs to be looked at plus the big bosses have already said you have to take a few days leave. They wanted to make you take 2 weeks but I convinced them to just give you the rest of this week. You can come back Monday morning. If you don't do it for them do it for me. I should have been right there with you but I instead went behind the house."

"Fin it's my fault not yours. I made the call to split up. I'll take the leave but I'll be there bright and early on Monday. Also the cut isn't deep. I'll let them bandage it if it will make you feel better Sergeant." Liv said with a soft smile.

~~~~~~Back at the Precinct~~~~~~

Fin walked in and sat at his desk. Muncy and Valasco were at their desks doing paperwork. Fin looked up and explained what was going on to the 2 junior detectives. Once everyone was up to date Fin and Valasco went to interrogate Brewer.

Muncy was at her desk when she heard footsteps approaching. Looking up she was shocked to see her Captain.

"Captain you are supposed to be at home resting. Is everything okay?" Muncy said with confusion and concern in her voice.

"Muncy everything is fine. I'm fine. I just remembered that I need to give my statement. Where is Fin?" Liv asked.

"Fin and Valasco are in interrogation 1 with Brewer. Let me go switch with him." She said as she hastily walked towards the room.

Liv was walking right behind her wanting to see if they were getting anything from Brewer. When she got to the window she saw Muncy walk in and tell Fin something. He got up and she took his spot. He walked out to liv and just stood by her.

"I knew you wouldn't stay away today." He said with a smug smile.

"He admitted it. He was talking about it when I was tied up. I wouldn't be here if it weren't so important."

Fin look at his Captain and followed her to her office to take her statement. Once they door was shut they sat down.

They went over how everything started with the door opening with a gun being held on her. Then to seeing the sister and children then to Brewer.

"Tell me his exact words." Fin said.

"If she would have just said yes this wouldn't be happening right now! She's the love of my life and she laughed at me! Who does she think she is?" She said in a calm tone, "Fin I'm afraid he could get the insanity plea."

"Captain he held a gun to you, beat his sister, endangered her children, and held you all hostage. Even if he does he's going away for awhile." He said trying to calm Liv down. "Go home. I'll keep you updated. You need to go see your sweet boy and not think about this too much. I've got it from here. See you Monday."
