Ao'nung narrowed his eyes, raising a brow towards the disturbed presence. "..Staring is considered rude." He drew out.
His body ached, heavily.
Ta'liyah ignored the boy's words, cocking her head to his side. Feeling a little uncertain as she spoke up. "What are you.. doing?"
"You have eyes, no?"
Ta'liyah scrunched her nose at the older teens' impolite response.
However, thoughts of just leaving the other to himself halted. Noticing, the way his pale blue body continued to shudder. Shallow bioluminescent waves still washing over him.
"You shouldn't lay there." She mumbled, hesitantly. "You'll get-"
"What do you care?" He hissed, a pained cough drew from within his throat.
Ta'liyah's mouth tightened. Her stomach twisted at the sight of him. "I don't," she hissed back, tossing him a hateful glance. "I wouldn't want our healers wasting anymore herbs on your self-inflicted shit."
His jaw clenched as he looked away. Suddenly, painfully aware of how burning it felt for the salted waters to wash over his small open grazes. "Nothing will be wasted on me." He took a sharp breath. "I make sure of that. Now, go away."
Ta'liyah didn't doubt his words. Her eyes skimmed over the boy's skin, marred with scars, grazes, and what seemed to be fresh cuts. No doubt from another one of his notorious adventures from beyond the reef. All untreated. Although the boy acted like he was invisible, the results of his reckless behavior proved he wasn't.
A moment of silence passed and Ao'nung began to conclude that the girl had managed to quietly step away, not bothering to see if it was true.
However, his thoughts were proven wrong when her soft voice spoke. "Why?" It was only a hushed whisper, he almost hadn't heard her. "Why do this to yourself?"
He tilted his head, meeting her gaze. The unspoken answer. Here she was. The girl that haunted his mind and plagued his every thought. Standing there innocently. Her eyes lying, laced with hesitance, curiosity, and worry.
His soft glance became a hardened glare. "Wouldn't you like to know," He seethed, disdainfully, "Two years," He coughed, ignoring the pain. "And you choose now to bother me?" He gritted out, "Did our guests bore you that much?" His voice laced with venom, hitting the girl with each syllable he spat.
Ta'liyah blinked and her eyes dimmed and hardened. "Forget it!" She jerked her head away, all of her concern gone. "Two years," Ta'liyah repeated his words, "And all you've done is recklessly throw yourself towards any bit of danger and surround yourself with narrow minded followers-"
"You're not one to judge," He spat, angrily. Standing himself up, ignoring the ache in his body. "I know you. The real you." His voice low, as he neared her. "You can fool them but not me. Never me."
"What are you saying?" Ta'liyah narrowed her eyes towards the taller teen just mere inches away from her.
"This," He seethed, eyes heavily on her, "This is the real you." Speaking up before the girl got her chance, "You play pretend, acting like some saint.." He pressed, "But I see you." He spoke, tersely.
His icy eyes glaring down on hers, holding the same lingering anger and resentment he did. Ta'liyah felt her posture falter, the air in her throat tightened. By that point the two teens were breathing hard. "At least I'm no faker." He spat with contempt.
"You should try it," Ta'liyah forced a bitter laugh, stepping closer. "It'll save the trouble of everyone having to worry about you." She seethed angrily, tears pricked her glossy eyes. "Or do you like that? Is that why? Do you like the attention-" He caught her wrist in his hand.
"Don't speak as if you know me." He cut, getting more angrier. The confidence in her voice along with her accusations had him on edge. "I don't thrive in others ' attention nor their validation." He calmly stated, knowing he'd hit her with his words.
The girl's brows furrowed, "You're right," She stated, failing to jerk her hand away from his grasp. "I don't know you.." Her body wavered, she bit her lip and looked away before saying. "Not anymore."
"Not anymore." Ao'nung repeated in clarification, a slight pang in his chest.
"Now, let me go," She jerked her wrist out of his grasp, "You can continue to miserably fail in drowning yourself." Her words were clipped, as she regained her composure.
He didn't bother to give the girl a reply as he continued to stare at her. His gaze darker than usual.
Without another word Ta'liyah rubbed at her wrists and walked away.
Both teens dreaded the inevitable tomorrow.
