in spite of its increasing tendency to shovel out sucky content, i still watch netflix cuz it is the only streaming service my family will pay for. So i thought i'd list some of my hidden gem discoveries over the years...though hidden gems probably isnt the right word. basically, just stuff i like that isnt already vastly popular. yeah.

1. Carmen Sandiego (2019)
lmao ik if anyone is reading this its probably someone who followed me for my CS fanfics so you do not need my rec BUT what can i say? I friggin love this show and it stays severely underrated!! AHH! I HAVE to include it. Its a simple must.
premise: Netflix's Carmen Sandiego premiered in 2019 and reboots the 90s gameshow character. In this iteration. Carmen is an anti-hero thief with a great sense of style who sets out to stop VILE, the criminal organization that raised her, from stealing priceless items of historical significance from all around the world. (think: thief stealing back paintings that nazis stole vibes) While far from perfect, the show is kid-friendly, has an awesome sleek animation style that blends wild kratts and the archer, sorta, and has an AMAZING main character that is so rootable i cannot express. The show is not too long and a fun binge if you're into thieves/spies/female action stuff, and keeps the spirit of the original character alive with interesting history tidbits every episode!

2.Inside Job
premise: inside job is an adult comedy show based around Cognito Inc, a secret agency set in place to protect government conspiracies from becoming public information. This show treats pretty much any wacky popular conspiracy theory out there--fake moon landing, illuminatti, lizard people, robot president, etc--as if they were real and works from there. It's hilariously well-done and i am still so pissed it got cancelled after 2 fantastic seasons. But of what we got , i 100% recommend giving it a watch even if it never got to finish.
The main character is Reagan, a crass, pessimistic genius gunning for department head, the position her suck-ass father and number one hater of Cognito Inc once had before he was fired. Reagan's team and sort-of friends serve as the ensemble cast--Glenn, the dolphin hybrid supersoldier who's a little slow in the brains, Gigi, the fast talking media manipulation manager, Andre Lee, a drug-loving chemist, Myc, a sarcastic, telepathic sentient mushroom from the hollow earth, and Brett, a totally normal new hire frat-boy type whom Reagan despises. They are a joy to watch. Also, this show has lizard-person Taylor Swift and cult-leader beyonce. How can you not?
