First off, i was super here for Brat summer. Brat summer was a movement and it was so so fun. I live to embody brat girl energy
Naturally, i had to listen to the album that sparked the movement in the first place. I'd heard snippets online and while i wasnt *too* moved by them, lots of bits were catchy.
So today i finally sat and listened to it all the way through and...
I really dont get it?
I understand that maybe the genre might not be for me (i like more bubblegum pop and rnb). If it hadnt been for the hype i wouldnt have thought anything of it and just decided "this album is fine but not for me."
But given the hype online i was expecting to be BLOWN away and i just wasnt. It was lauded for super intricate song writing, amazing polished perfection, and catchy danceable hooks that eojld stick in your mind.
And i found that the album (for me) did not have any of the above. The song writing was okay. Not terrible but it hardly rhymed in various places and lots of lyrics were super juvenile (read; all of girl so confusing). The production just sounded like standard electronic music that often times strayed into the "too grating" territory. It didnt feel groundbreaking at all. And its not that i dont enjoy club/electronic-pop as a genre becahse i love songs like Gimme More, but Brat didnt do it for me. And lastly the final and most important issue...none of the songs were all that catchy? I'm failing to see the obsession here and i really, really tried to.
I didn't hate all of it. 360 is genuinely catchy and girl so confusing is kind of a bop, especially the Lorde Remix. I cant really hate on Apple either. Springbreakers from the deluxe was also a lot of fun. That was one of the few examples where the hook "worked" and something in thr song stuck out as catchy to me. But the rest of the album... i don't know.
Its just not for me. I just don't get it. I truly cant imagine listening to Brat and rating it more than a 4-5/10. Thats just me.
I know nobody cares but i had to vent this out SOMEWHERE lol because my seemingly different opinion from the masses was slightly eating up at me from the inside
