It was mostly the siblings talking. Yongju explained to Ye-rin some things and some mementos in his office–items he previously described to his noona when they had their phone calls before. Like his collection of books, the oddball project, his little coffee corner, and his cassette tapes.
Since Yongju mentioned the cassette tapes, Ye-rin asked whether Yongju still had the tape Lee Young-jo gave him. The question caught Yongju off guard, but he laughed it off and nodded. His gaze shifted quickly to Myungsim who seemed annoyed at him again.
Ye-rin noticed Myungsim's expression too and so she had to ask,
"Did you meet Dr. Lee, Myungsim?"
Myungsim averted her eyes from Kim Sabu and smiled at the older woman. "I did, eonni. She was here not a while ago, needing help for her friend,"
"Yes, I remember you mentioned it, Yongju–" Ye-rin nodded at her brother, "--but you didn't say whether you two were already married then–I seem to recall I even asked you–"
"Myungsim and I were already together then, noona. Remember that's why I changed the topic when you asked–"
"Oh yes, I remember now–sorry," the older woman snickered and raised her hands in surrender. "If it means anything, I like you way better than her, Myungsim," Ye-rin added and smiled warmly at the nurse.
Myungsim chuckled and shook her head, not taking the older woman's bait.
"I like you too, way better than her, yeobo," Yongju added and winked at Myungsim.
Not even pretending, Myungsim rolled her eyes in annoyance at the doctor. She wasn't sure why but she'd been so irked by him today. Probably because despite him teasing her more than usual, he'd really been the sweetest and acted so perfectly the husband role he was supposed to play. The problem was, Ye-rin was set to leave for Seoul tomorrow night to see a couple of friends before she headed back to the US. And so everything would go back to normal then, and then her and Yongju would once again be the colleagues that they truly were–nothing more. The thought made her feel like her throat was closing up. She knew she needed to get a hold of her emotions, at least until tomorrow when she could go back to her old room at the staff house, lick her wounds, and heal herself again.
Ye-rin chuckled seeing Myungsim's eye roll at her brother. She thought it was cute how her brother liked to tease Myungsim. She wasn't a relationship expert by any means, but she knew it would help keep the fire burning in their relationship.
Realizing that they'd already taken much of her brother's time, Ye-rin announced they should leave.
"We'll leave you be–but we'll see you at the ramyeon house tonight," Ye-rin said, talking to Yongju. "We can still freshen up at home, right? We should have enough time?" the older woman added, shifting her gaze to Myungsim.
Myungsim nodded and stood up from the sofa. "Yes, eonni. We can still go home–it's not far from here,"
The older woman nodded and was about to bid her goodbye to Yongju but her brother cut her off. "Noona–do you mind giving me and Myungsim a couple of minutes? I just have some work related stuff to discuss with her," lying through his teeth knowing that what he needed to discuss with Myungsim was far from work.
"I don't mind. I'll wait for you outside," Ye-rin smiled at Myungsim and then hugged Yongju before she left the office.
Hearing the door finally closed, Myungsim let out a sigh she'd been holding for hours.
Fixing her gaze to the floor, she didn't want to meet Kim Sabu's eyes because she felt like she might cry anytime soon. Today was a lot for her, as someone who hated lying and someone who was actually trying to repress her feelings for Kim Sabu. The doctor had been touchy and almost loving today as she recalled their position when she woke up this morning. And then the constant teasing, the eye contacts, and him calling her yeobo. They were all coming at her at once.
