"An shi put yuh out fi dat!?" Kelly asked.

I nodded.

When we got to the house, the first thing I did was take a shower. Then, I told them everything.

"Bwoy mi cyaa understand Kaydiann... Shi sick." Miss Maxine commented.

"Yuh can stay wid us as long as yuh need to. Yaa sleep wid Kelly tonight, tomorrow mi prepare di guest room fi yuh. Don't stress out yuh self ova dis, yuh have school fi focus pan." She added.

"Thank you." I hugged her, then Kelly.

"You're welcome. A few minutes to eleven now, unu get some rest."

She turned the light off, then left the room.

It wasn't long before Kelly fell asleep and my mind ran with the opportunity to overthink. Even at twelve am, I was still wide awake.

What would I do without them?

A WEEK LATER

"Bwoy mi glad dis a wi last year a da school ya. Big big career day an dem a mek wi wear uniform. Wa kinda fuckry dat?" Kelly fussed.

I on the other hand didn't care to dress up. Mainly because I have no money to waste on a Physician outfit. I have eleven thousand dollars left from the money my uncle in America sent me over the holiday.

I need a job.

"What's on your mind babe?" Kelly asked.

"Money. I need a job so that I can at least send myself to school and buy my personal hygiene products. I love and appreciate you and Miss Maxine but mi nuh waa end up a depend pan unu fi every likkle ting."

She nodded.

"Mi understand."

"Good morning students." The Principal greeted us.

"Good morning Mister Clarke." The entire auditorium responded.

"Our first speaker is on his way so we're going to begin shortly. In the meantime, you'll be getting some handouts with some exercises for you to complete throughout the session. Please maintain the low noise level, you've been doing great so far."

Jevon

First on the day's agenda is an appearance at Excelsior High School to speak to the students about Entrepreneurship.

I wanted to smoke but I decided against it and fought the urge. Getting high before such an educational session nuh sound good an it definitely nah guh look good.

Instead, I connected my phone to my car and played 'School' by Vybz Kartel to get into the right frame of mind.

In less than twenty minutes, I was there.

Only four minutes late.

"Bombo... a who a drive da Bimma ya?" One of the female students asked her friend as I parked in the school yard.

"A muss one a di speaker dem." Her friend answered.

They stood still, waiting for me to get out of the car.

"Him cute eee!?" They squealed in unison.

"Good morning." I greeted them, pretending not to hear their comments.

"Morning."

"Good morning."

They returned my greeting.

"Girl mek wi hurry up an guh back in!" The shorter girl whispered.

I chuckled.

Dem likkle girl ya nuh easy enuh...

I walked over to the auditorium and met the Principal at the entrance.

"Mister Johnson, you're here!"

"Yes I am, good morning sir."

I held my hand out for him to shake.

"Good morning. Thanks for being here."

He shook my hand.

"It's an honor." I replied.

"We're ready, follow me."

He led me to the podium and introduced me.

"Alright everybody. Our first speaker is here, he's the owner of D.S.J Lounge. Yes, di same place weh nuff a unu skull school and guh."

He started, earning laughs from everybody in the auditorium, including me.

"And quite a few other notable businesses. Mister Jevon Johnson is here to talk to you guys about Entrepreneurship. Give him a warm welcome everybody."

Krissann

I recognized him the second he stepped up to the podium. It's the same guy who stopped to ask if I was okay when Kaydiann put me out a week ago.

"Wait... nuh-"

"Yup." I confirmed before Kelly could finish her question.

"Raassclaat..." She mumbled.

She's just as stunned as I am.

Though I caught myself getting lost in his hazel eyes a few times during his presentation, and admiring how neat his cornrows are, the information he shared was quite inspiring. I even made a few notes.

"Any questions before I leave?" He asked.

Several girls raised their hands.

"Watch thirst." Kelly whispered, making me laugh.

"You first." He pointed to the girl sitting directly infront of Kelly.

She stood up and as they waited for the vice principal to hand her the microphone, we made eye contact. He looked away, then looked back at me and I could tell that he recognized me.

"Raass... look like him pick up yuh face girl." Kelly noticed.

"Hmhm." I responded.

Our stare was broken when the girl started talking.

"Because you have multiple businesses, I want to know what inspired you to open a business in so many different industries."

"What's your name?" He asked her.

"Aaliyah."

"That's a very good question Aaliyah. The first business I started was D.S.J. Lounge. The inspiration came from three of the things I love to do: I love to drink, I love sports, and I love a good laugh, hence the jokes. When I realized how successful it was, I got even more inspired to start businesses based on other things I love. All of my business ventures are inspired by things I love to do because if you don't love what you do, yuh nah guh happy and it nah guh work."

She nodded and sat down.

He took three more questions, then he left.

They gave us a fifteen minute break since the second speaker was running late.

"A hope nuh body nuh come tek wi seat enuh... cause a doh waa gwaan bad." Kelly said as she opened her purse.

"Let's leave our bags because mi nuh really waa nuh different seat either. Bring yuh purse."

We left our bags on the chairs and went in search of the illegal vendors on the compound to buy some refreshments.
