Chapter 19: Downhill

"I need to speak to you. Come to my office right now."

That's what my boss said to me the minute she entered the building and saw me. I'm anxious because she looked upset and she didn't even say good morning.

This can't be good.

Hesitantly, I followed her to her office and waited as she opened the door and placed her work bag on her desk.

"Sit." She ordered, while taking her seat also.

For a few seconds, she looked at me... almost in disgust.

"Krissann..." She finally started.

"I hired you because I saw a lot of professionalism in you despite your inexperience as an employee. I never saw you as someone who would get intimately involved with someone I do business with from time to time. And carelessly at that."

Naturally, I grew even more anxious. My heart rate sped up significantly and my palms started sweating.

I opened my mouth, but quickly closed it back because I didn't know what to say and I didn't want to say anything to make matters worse. I can't afford to lose this job.

We sat in awkward silence as she reached into her bag and pulled out her phone.

She unlocked her phone and showed me a picture of Jevon and I hugging really closely, then a short clip of him opening the car door for me, and me going in.

But the thing that shocked me was that she didn't take the picture, an shi neva video wi. The picture was obviously sent to her via Whatsapp. The date and time, and most importantly, the name 'Shamay' was at the top of both.

"What do you have to say for yourself?" She asked, after putting her phone on her desk.

I sighed.

"Jevon has been a really great friend to me."

That's all I said. Simply because that's truly how we started off, and I don't want to overshare any information that might get him in trouble. At this moment, I thanked God that there was no picture nor video of us kissing.

She squinted her eyes at me, and I could tell that she didn't believe me.

My eyes widened at her revelation.

Again, I was silent as I thought about multiple things.
