Chishiya wandered away again, not before staring everyone in the room down, and you took your chance. So he left the sheep all to you. You could kiss him right now, looking at the two clueless men still side-eyeing the way he left in nervously.
"Can I talk to you two?" You looked down, kicking your feet. "He... he killed that girl. He killed her. That's not my boyfriend..." You sniffled.
"Then why didn't you say anything sooner?!" One yelled, but the other put an arm out to stop him.
"He gets angry, really, really angry. I-I'm sorry but you can't tell him I said that."
"What do we do?" The one that held his friend back, whose name you learned was Riku, asked.
"We all vote for him and just give each other our second vote. Riku votes for me, I vote for you, and you vote for him, that way no matter which one of you he chooses, we will all go to the second round."
You did your best to sound genuine, the countless times you have had to tell the patients how sorry you were for their loved ones or that their time was limited having trained you in that composed but sympathetic tone you needed.
"And what after that?" A harsh voice snapped you out of it, still looking at you with distrust. So he wasn't such a sheep after all. But you were smarter than falling for that.
"Then I die." Shock was written all over their faces and you revealed your smile, masked with desperation. "He may not be the best guy out there, but he was my rock. He protected me, he's the reason I'm still alive, but the image of him just killing that woman... I can't look at him without thinking about it."
Tears pricked your eyes, and Riku was quick to hug you, muttering 'sorry' and 'thank you'. All doubt was now gone from the other man, too, the look of gratefulness and pity written all over his face. You hated it when someone looked at you with pity.
A star student, a genius kid with dreams of being a heart surgeon. Such a pity her parents were like that and could never help her with anything and she had to work part-time after school and the night shift. She could never have the time to study and maintain a scholarship to a star university.
Such a pity...
You did all that. You did it all and had even managed to save up enough to get your own apartment and escape the small basement room you had grown up in only a year after getting a scholarship at the best medical university in Tokyo.
Their pity was all for nothing, just as his is. You wanted to let Riku live, apologize to him and tell him such a naive person wasn't made for this world originally but now you would kill him off first. Show him how he never should have pitied you, you were going to be the one to destroy him, all because he let his guard down.
"I'm going to go find him, spend the rest of the time with him if you guys don't mind." You sighed, not bothering to hide your huge smile as you skipped to Chishiya. "Guess what?" You chirped, and he looked rather annoyed to see you.
"What?"
"Bring me to the beach, or you are going to die!" You sat next to him and hooked your elbows together. He pulled his arm back, turning to face you.
"Alright."
"Chishiya! Come on, don't you want to spice things up a bit? Don't you get in trouble for always being the only survivor?"
"The trouble you would bring me is much worse than that."
"You know I have no values and ideals! I'm a piece of shit, but I am so bored it hurts before the games start that I swear I would never bother you if you brought me to that place full of people."
