You rolled out of your bed, nearly falling on the floor. The sun hit your eye and your hand shot up to your head, trying to ease the headache that ripped through it. You hadn't had a hangover like this in a while with your first solo surgery coming up any day. An appendectomy had been promised to you, but you could forget about that now.
When you go up, however, you find a glass of water and aspirin on your bedside table. You sneered at the pills and shoved them inside a cabinet, gulping the water down before you got in the bathroom.
You were not about to put any random pills in your mouth when your door has no lock. You walked into the bathroom, desperate for a hot shower to get the strong smell of alcohol off of your body. For someone that loved drinking that much, your hate of the smell was unexpected.
And then you walked down to breakfast, grabbing an apple and leaving straight away since the smell of food made you nauseous. "The only way to get through a hangover properly is a Pina Colada." You smiled at the bartender, who recognized you, and took a bite of the apple.
Most people are hangover like you, but they usually wake up a lot later so the pool that's usually packed is almost completely empty this early in the morning. "Get her cranberry juice." Chishiya interrupted, and even though the bartender had no idea who he was, he was off to find the juice with one glance at his number.
"What do you think you are doing?" You glared at him and he smirked, amused. So you really didn't remember yesterday at all, or you would at least be a little awkward.
"Even if you weren't a doctor, you should have known by now that it helps with the hangover."
"Drinking more is better, but what is it to you anyway?" You turned the bar stool his way now to fully face him. "There must be something you want from me."
"I don't want anything from you."
"Are you sucking up to me, then! The Chishiya Shuntaro is sucking up to me?" You smiled, leaning closer to his face. He wanted to protest at the invasion of his beloved personal space and remind you he would never 'suck up' to anyone because he didn't need something like that, but he held his tongue.
Say more, it would only make you feel stupider when you look back at it. That thought kept him amused as he grabbed the drink and handed it to you. "I didn't play yesterday after all, but you didn't either."
"How do you know?"
"I didn't, but now I do." You smiled, your face scrunching up the moment you tasted the juice. "God I need a fucking cigarette." You clicked your tongue, nibbling on your cheek once again.
"You are killing yourself anyway, why are you trying to survive so badly?"
"Because it's fun." You shrugged, glancing at him before you continued. "I love winning, and I love the rush, so I play." He nodded, got off the stool, and walked away without another word.
It was weird that he ever approached you in the first place, but leaving like this is weird even for him. And he was being too nice. "Hey, that Pina Colada we were talking about..."
"I got you, let me pour this nasty shit away." The bartender laughed as he took the drink away, and you continued making small talk with him until more people started appearing.
"So, I'm guessing mission seduction failed?" Kuina laughed, coming up from behind him.
"It takes time, she isn't stupid." He sighed, watching from afar as the bartender spilled the cranberry juice in a bush and made you the drink you had asked for instead.
"I don't think it's going well so far."
"Do you not have anything better to do, Kuina?" He glared at her, and she raised her hands in surrender as she backed up to wherever she came from. She loved watching the usually completely unbothered man get frustrated and struggle to hide it.
He walked off, going back to his room to try and get his makeshift taser to work. He had already snatched a number from all eight groups that would go to games tonight, and all he had to do was wait until you picked your number.
-
"You cannot seriously be sending me to check her group."
"I am." He shrugged, leaning his back against the wall. She complied anyway, but not without complaining about it. Kuina didn't even bother coming back, just raised four fingers, and after making sure the man had seen her, walked to her own group.
"What group do you have?" You walked up to him shortly after.
"Four." He smirked, holding up a piece of paper with the number on it.
"Oh, I'm three. Guess the pattern breaks here, crunchy hair." You smiled. "I actually had four, but Aya wanted to be with her new boyfriend, so I just switched with her--"
"I'm an executive." He cut you off. "You should have kept your mouth shut, that's not allowed. Go and switch back with her before I have to go tell Hatter." He tried to appear neutral, but in reality, he wanted to strangle you at this point.
Of course, you found a way to ruin his plans, but this time he wouldn't let you. You had to play a game together, a diamond one, so he could find a way to impress you and get the chance to get close to you.
"You sure you don't just want our streak to continue?" You laughed, but he didn't find it funny. Then again, he never found anything really funny, so you didn't take it to heart. "Alright, alright, I'm going. See you in the car, crunchy hair."
You walked away, heading to Aya with a wide smile. Your death streak with Chishiya was like your baby, and you were happy to keep it alive for another day, and he apparently did too. It was the Beach, you were allowed to take drugs, but not switch groups;
You guessed that he thought the lie was so stupid you would believe it just because it was so below him. He couldn't be honest about his love for your baby, that's it.
