I lower my harpoon. Neteyam clenches his jaw in anger. He grinds his teeth and holds his neck. I turn and walk away from him.

"Don't you understand that I am trying to do my best to protect my family." He exclaims.

It doesn't take long for Neteyam to walk to where I am and stand in front of me, blocking my way.

"And I don't think you understand that I'm trying to do the same thing." I say through clenched teeth. "You're trying to protect your family it's respectable but it puts mine at risk. My family is my priority"

Our shoulders bump as I walk past him. I don't want to waste my time talking to him, this debate will never end. We both want to defend the same thing but in different ways. But my people come first.

I walk with a quick step along the mangrove roots. I jump from root to root. Until I reach the crowd of Metkayinas gathered in front of a Marui taller than the others. Then the crowd moves aside, making a path for the Tsahìk to pass. Her gaze is cold, empty of expression.

In her arms she carries a calabash containing her medical utensils. I start to follow her.

"Mother?" I ask, hoping to get an answer from her but she doesn't answer and keeps walking. "Mother..." I repeat.

Her feet do not stop. Against all expectations, she does not go in the direction of her Marui but crosses the village.

"Mother, please. Has something happened?" I say as I block her way.

She pushes me with her arm to shift me to the side. Some of the Na'vi in the village watch with a worried look as my mother moves forward. Some stop what they were doing or cut off their discussion. Her behaviour is too suspicious and draws stares.

She is walking, looking at the horizon, and when she reaches the edge of the village she stops walking. She faces me, puts the calabash on the ground and with a slow, almost too slow gesture puts her hands on my cheeks.

"Feel what I feel." She says, closing her eyes. "Eywa is angry. Bad things are coming, things that cannot be avoided."

She says with a face marked by concern. Her features are usually impassive. But seeing her like this worries me too.

"When I touched the girl, I felt a deep connection with Eywa. Eywa used this girl to talk to me." She slides her hands from my cheeks to my shoulders. "It is coming to us.

We need to send these strangers home." I answer her.

"No." She lets go of my shoulders and drops her arms down her body. "It's already too late, all we can do now is damage control."

Mother turns to look at the ocean. She watches the moon reflect on the sea.

"This girl is special. It's like I can feel Eywa through her. Like Eywa is running through her veins." She looks at her hands with which she has touched Kiri.

I go up to her and take her hands.

"They are humans, aren't they? These demons come for the Sullys?" Demons coming for demons, the irony. "We shouldn't have accepted their request for asylum.

It's not just their fight, it's ours too now."She squeezes my hands to convey me her emotions.

I frown. "No. You've seen their machine as well as I have, that iron dragonfly they call a helicopter. It has guns and moves as fast as our animals. In 20 years, these machines must have evolved."
