"How long ago did they leave?" I ask, scratching my jaw nervously.

"Are you all right? Did something happen while you were with mother?" She frowns and puts her hand on my arm. "Y/N?

She got annoyed with me about my behaviour, which she described as immature." I say, miming inverted commas as well as grimacing to add credibility to my lie. "She simply told me that I didn't deserve the title of Chief for now and she's right.

Don't listen to her. Don't listen to her." Tsireya smiled at me, "I trust you.

Thank you, Tsireya."

I smile back and she leads me towards the big fire on the beach where the boys are sitting, eating. Ao'nung devours his fish under the disgusted gazes of Roxto and Lo'ak, who can't help but wince.

"You eat like a two-year-old." Tsireya exclaims. "It's disgusting. You don't even make me want to eat!

Then give me your share." He tries to articulate with food in his mouth.

Tsireya rolls her eyes before sitting down on the sand opposite them, and I do the same.

"Where's Kiri?" I ask, searching for her with my eyes.

"She's sleeping in our marui with Spider and Neteyam." Lo'ak replies, taking a bite of his fish after standing with his back to Ao'nung.

I didn't see her. She wasn't there. Right? No, otherwise I would have seen her. She must have gone for a walk outside and I arrived at just the right moment.

"Wasn't she feeling well?

She wanted to share some time with her brother." Ao'nung replies.

I nod.

"You're strangely calm." Ao'nung says.

"She's just been told off by Mother. I saw them, that's why we couldn't find her." Tsireya said, putting her arm on my shoulder.

"It's all right, don't worry." I smile at her.

"Let's party!" Tuk comes in screaming.

The little girl runs to Tsireya and me and grabs our hands to force us to stand up. Tsireya smiles. I try to match their energy. Even though the scene that took place barely an hour ago is stuck in my head.

"Let's dance!"

She leads us towards the Metkayinas gathered in front of the musicians. Everyone is dancing and happy. Neteyam's awakening was surely just an excuse to celebrate. We dance. I dance to take my mind off what I've done.

A tap on my shoulder snaps me out of my trance. I turn round to find Roxto looking at me with a quizzical expression on his face. His right eyebrow arches upwards.

"What's wrong?" I ask him.

"Did you change your bandage?"

I lower my head to my stomach, I'm not a doctor, I don't know their way of bandaging patients and I don't even know if there are several ways of doing it. It's better not to lie.

"I hadn't been paying attention but it loosened up on the way back here so Mother did it to me again." I reply.

He nods without asking any more questions and goes back to Lo'ak and Ao'nung.
