Standing on the beach with my parents, we watch the Omatikaya family coming towards the beach. Their faces are clouded with sadness. They dismount and walk towards us. The demon child stands behind them. He makes himself scarce.

Toruk Makto has gashes on his face and body, the scars of a hard fight, a fight to the death. He looks at Father and steps forward. His family stays behind him, their heads bowed.

"Let us bury my son and we will leave tomorrow. I promise."

My parents glance at each other. Mother nods and Father walks over to Toruk Makto and takes him in his arms.

"This is your home." Father says.

Toruk Makto nods and gives the Chief a few pats on the back before stepping back. Mother walks towards the woman behind Toruk. She takes her hand and lifts her chin so that she looks at her.

"Your son is not dead yet."

Neytiri's ears perk up and her cold gaze softens. The corners of her mouth turn downwards.

"My son..." She says with a trembling voice.

"Is he alive?" Toruk turns to the Tsahìk.

Mother looks at the man who looks as if he has regained hope. "I said he is not dead yet."

Lo'ak, Kiri and Tuk look at each other and smile. The smallest one starts to cry as she hugs her brother. Lo'ak takes her in his arms and speaks up.

"Where is he? Can we see him?

He is sleeping. His body has fallen asleep so that it doesn't expend any energy other than to stay alive." Says Mother. "If in a few days he doesn't wake up, we'll have to end his life or he'll die on his own."

"He is in a coma..." said Toruk to himself.

Omatikayas' ears flatten. The father of the family as usual remains positive and does his best to cheer up his family.

"There is a chance. Neteyam is not dead!" He turns to his wife who looks up at him. "The great mother knows what she is doing. Trust her."

Neytiri nods. "I want to see my son." She takes a step towards the chief.

He glances at his wife.

"Y/N. Find someone who can get him the care he needs." She says to me. "Jake need to be treated before he sees his son. The rest of you, follow me." Mother says before walking away.

Father gives Toruk a slight smile then follows his wife. Kiri is the first to follow the Tsahìk. She turns to her mother and her brother who is carrying Tuk. Seeing that they make no move, she grabs their hands.

"Come." She says as she pulls them towards the village.

The human child follows them without looking at anything but the sand under his feet.
The Omatikaya watches his family walk away from him with a sad look on his face. I should treat him myself, waiting for a doctor would take too long.

"Follow me." I say as I walk towards the fire on the beach.

Around a fire on the beach where Metkayinas are being treated, there are empty seats. I show Toruk the sand with my hand and he sits down. I take a calabash containing medical equipment and return to the Omatikaya and sit down in front of him.
Despite being told that his son is not dead, his expression is still grim.
