Fire. The last thing he could remember was fire. And pain. Blood seeping out of him. How could they do this to him? He was just a boy! He never hurt anyone he never betrayed anyone! Why was the one who had to die..?

Cairo groaned as his alarm went off and sleepily tried to make it stop. Some days, he wished he could spear a bone through it and call it a day, but that would be a waist of magic, wouldn't it? Besides, Cairo was almost there. Ebbot City, USA. The place where monsters like him could roam free, and after a hundred or so years of being separated from his people, he was eager to return home. Cairo sat up from his bed, trying to shake off the last dregs of his nightmare before he went to get dressed. That night... it was a night he never wanted to think about again. The worst night in war history. The day he'd lost a piece of himself. Yet, every night since, it was all he could dream of. It was something he'd grown used to, though. He could usually shake it off with ease. Cairo tossed his duster on and threw up his hood, applying a little magic to make the illusion that he looked human before he headed out of the motel.

Cairo stopped at a coffee shop for a small breakfast. The skeleton wasn't exactly rich, persay, but over the years, he'd learned the trade of buying things, refurbishing them, and selling them again. While that business had long since died in the new age of technology, he still had some money left over from that. Eventually, he would get a job again when he made it to Ebbot- "Sam?" Cairo got up to get his food and his drink. Sam or Samuel Bennett was the human name he'd been using since the real Samuel Bennett had died in the war. It did its job to keep him safe as his gloved hands took up the food and drink. He thanked Samuel every day for this protection that he had unknowingly provided him. Cairo went to sit and eat his muffin. The journey would be long, but he was sure he could reach it by noon if he was quick, so it was high time to do just that.

Call Cairo old-fashioned, but really, he was. Walking all the way to Ebbot City when there were a thousand faster ways to get there. He just didn't like any of them. He got motion sick riding a horse-drawn wagon. Why would he want anything faster? So yes, he walked along the highway, the city just in his view. The city where monsters could roam out of hiding... finally, he could meet the Royal Family, meet others of his kind, and visit some old places he used to know a hundred years prior to his capture and eventual escape. Of course, Cairo also had his doubts. All monsters were supposed to have been sealed Underground... but his situation was unique and called for different circumstances to every other monster within the war. He just hoped he would be accepted despite those circumstances. He just wanted a place he could fit in and relax... Ebbot City was his last chance. He entered the city around the time he thought he would, and almost immediately, he could see monsters and humans mingling. A far cry from the war. It was a nice sight to see. Cairo dropped his magic as he dropped his hood. He had a feeling he was gonna like it here.
