It was a little unnerving, the way Sans was staring at Cairo. The skeleton was unnerved, but he tried not to show that while he talked to the others and learned about the Underground. Apparently, there were sections of the Underground made specifically for different monster species to help them thrive. The oldest section was Old Home, where everyone lived right after the war. Apparently, some of the weaker or less adaptable species stayed, along with the former Queen. Then there was Snowdin, a place for the cold weather elementals, furred monsters, and the skeleton brothers lived. Waterfall was for the more aquatic monsters and was unanimously voted the most beautiful place in the Underground. Then there was Hotland, the second for all the fire monsters and monsters that needed heat to survive. That was also where the lab was built. No doubt his savior had built it. After that was New Home, where the king and the rest of the monsters lived. Cairo had to applaud their adaptability. One of these days, he wanted to see the Underground for himself. "THE GREAT PAPYRUS WOULD BE HAPPY TO SHOW YOU!" Unlike the unnerving Sans, Papyrus was just really nice.

After everyone had eaten their fill and learned about each other, Undyne, Papyrus, and the human, Frisk, roped him into some game of chase. Cairo hadn't played a game like this since Samuel Bennett had been alive. Frisk was crazy good at dodging - they probably had to be - and weaving away whenever they were the one being chased. Papyrus was agile and fast. Whenever he was the target, Cairo and the others had to be careful of blue magic. With Undyne, it was green magic. When they finally turned their attention to Cairo... it was yellow magic. "A... barrier?" Frisk poked the thin bubble that surrounded him. "It's yellow magic... have you never seen it before?" Cairo asked, and Frisk shook their head as the barrier squished into their touch but didn't break. It left a strange tingling sensation through their finger. "the only way to break yellow magic is to counter it. for instance, if your soul was blue, you would have enough of a shield to jump through it." Sans told Frisk helpfully. It was the first time Cairo heard him speak at all since he got here. "Then do it! Let's get him!" Frisk was determined to win.

⚔️⚔️⚔️

After Frisk got a good tackle in- he tried not to think of the war or how defensive he felt getting tackled (it wasn't the best game for a veteran like himself)- it was about time for everyone to leave. It was getting late, and Frisk was getting tired from all the play. Cairo bid everyone goodnight before he headed out to the motel he was staying at. "where to next?" Cairo yelped and summoned a bone, pointing it at Sans. The skeleton held up his hands as he took a few steps back. "hey, whoa, necro, it's just me!" Cairo hadn't even heard Sans approach... and what did he call him? "Necro?" Sans raised a bonebrow and glanced back where they had come from before getting close. "that's what you are, right? the soul of that human boy, transplanted into gaster's firstborn son." Cairo felt the first beads of blue sweat form on his skull. "You... know about Samuel Bennett..?" He whispered to Sans. "gaster told me everything. everything about the necromancer spell, about the attack on the bennett's as well as the monster camp... he told me everything in case i ever met you."
