Chapter 9 - Karma/Despair

Kenny enters the Sanatorium, locking the door behind him.

The wolves are nowhere to be seen, but he does find a torch and a flashlight along with ammo and a sawed-off shotgun.

He breaks through a locked door, and the wolf he befriended comes out.

"Hey, Wolfie! Glad to see you, buddy," Kenny pets him, "you know how to get me outta here?"

Wolfie leads the way and Kenny follows him through the place.

It's in absolute ruins and he does wonder how his wolf friend is still alive.

At the sight of the other wolf's dead body, he sighs and apologises quietly to both.

He steps over it and keeps following Wolfie.

A screech in the distance tells him they're not alone in the building.

"I'll find my way from here, you go. I'll see you at the end, buddy."

His wolf friend is reluctant to leave, but does so.

While going through a room, he hears a sound from a container that has him aiming the gun at it.

He ends up not shooting, but he does shoot the Wendigo that jumps down from the ceiling.

Kenny runs away, hearing it behind him as he sees two separate paths.

He goes straight ahead, sliding a barred door shut behind him and shooting the Wendigo until it leaves.

Kenny goes through another door and finds Wolfie again.

"Hey, buddy. You're okay, it's okay."

He puts down the torch as the flame dies and picks up the wolf, moving to the next room.

Kenny just manages to avoid being seen by a Wendigo.

"It's okay, Wolfie, we're okay."

He just manages to dodge an arm from a cell.

The hallway has a row of cells, and the exit at the end.

He lets Wolfie run over to it.

Due to the wolf's size and speed, he makes it without issue.

Kenny has to avoid multiple Wendigo arms reaching out for him and having to shoot the ones that break out.

He barricades the door and jumps down to where he needs to go.

"Wolfie! Hey buddy, you coming?"

He holds out his arms and catches the wolf.

The two head off together.

....

Deep in the mines, Marjorine wakes up.

She's in pain and doesn't know where she is, but she's alive.

She gets up on her feet, stumbling through the mine.

She's also freezing on top of it all.

So you can imagine her relief when she finds a jacket and shoes.

Marjorine keeps going, but hears a screech behind her.

In the tunnel to the Sanatorium is Kylie, Erica, Stacy and Henrietta.

At the end of the tunnel is a door that leads to the Sanatorium.

Kylie tries to open it, but it won't budge. "Shit, Kenny must have locked it behind him. We'll need to find another way in."

Erica finds a manhole. "What about this?"

"Well...it's gonna have to do," Kylie says.

Henrietta finds a pipe and hands it to Stacy who opens the covering.

Erica and Kylie carry the manhole to the side.

Kylie goes down first since no one else wants to do it.

"This better be the tunnel we need."

"Where else would it go?" Erica replies.

Henrietta goes down next.

"You go first," Erica says to Stacy.

"Alright. You'll be there soon, right?"

"I promise," she smiles.

Stacy nods and heads down.

Erica brings the cover back over and climbs down, covering the opening as she does.

She walks alone in the tunnels until she hears Marjorine's voice faintly calling for help.

"Marjorine?" Erica calls down. "Is that you?"

No response, but she can hear her friends in the opposite tunnel.

Remembering what Henrietta read in the journal, Erica heads for her friends.

She reunites with the girls and Stacy hugs her.

"Glad you're safe."

"I can keep promises too."

Kylie tells the group to head back to the lodge. "Ladder's busted. I can climb up the rocks since someone needs to get Kenny, the rest of you should go back."

"Alright, but you stay safe," Henrietta replies.

She doesn't want to see any more dead bodies, and she definitely doesn't want to lose anyone else.

Elsewhere, Jason falls down a cliff and lands on the ground.

It's a real bitch to climb, a lot of near misses and close falls, but that makes victory so much better.

Kylie takes a second to breathe once she's at the top before continuing.

She drops down onto a dark path and picks up a shovel on the way, using it to break open a gate.

A wolf runs towards her and she's about to attack, when she realises it wants her to follow.

The wolf leads Kylie right to the person she wanted to find.

Kenny has been tackled by a Wendigo, that she helps get off him by hitting with the shovel.

When the Wendigo tries to attack her, Kenny shoots it.

"RUN!" he yells, and she does.

The wolf runs with her.

Kenny shoots a barrel as he runs out, and the room explodes behind them.

"You alright?" he asks her once they're both outside and okay.

"I should be asking you," Kylie replies, "and what's with the wolf?"

"That's Wolfie, he's my buddy. I told him to run but I guess he went to get help, thank for he found you. What are you doing out here?"

"Looking for you, and I found you. Let's head back."

The two plus Wolfie head back to the lodge.
