WHEN IT HURTS SO BAD
12x16

There are plenty of ways to wake up. And believe Matilda, she'd been woken up plenty of ways.

Mostly Jocelyn. It was always Jocelyn.

But not this time. It was a phone call.

Now, had it been from Arizona, Alex or a resident, she wouldn't have worried. But this phone call, was from Maggie.

Meredith's Maggie. Whom Meredith lived with. And just because they were in a fight, didn't mean neither of them didn't care if something happened to the other.

So imagine Matilda's worry when Maggie calls her early in the morning, telling her Meredith won't come out of her room.

"What?" Matilda sat up, her messy blonde hair falling on her face and shoulders. "What do you mean she won't leave her room? What happened."

"Well.. um," Maggie wet her lips. "I—"

"Give me the phone," A low voice said, and Matilda knew it could only be Amelia.

"Amelia. What happened?" Matilda got out of bed, already knowing she was going to have to leave now.

"Well—"

"Stop saying 'well' and just spit it out!" Matilda's phone rests between her ear and her shoulder as she pulls black leggings on from the top of her dresser.

"Well—"

"Amelia!"

"Okay, okay, sorry. It just so happens that she did go on her date with Thorpe," Amelia smiles awkwardly at the woman standing in front of her as she awaits Matilda's reaction.

The blonde pauses, "Okay? So he's there. That's why she won't come out. Look if you called because—"

"No, we wouldn't call because you're in love with her. That's an asshole move. We called because he may have spent the night.."

Matilda didn't bother fighting on the 'you're in love with her' comment, because it was true now. They both probably knew at this point—and if Maggie hadn't, Amelia just ruined it—but she did bother to say something about him spending the night.

"He what?!" Matilda put them on speaker, placing the phone on her dresser so she could pull a random sweater over her head.

"He spent the ni—"

"No, no, no. I heard you," Matilda walks out of her bedroom, Ryan stumbling out of the bathroom.

"Hey is that my shirt—"

Matilda's eyes widen, and her finger flies up to her mouth to signal him to shut up.

Ryan flew his hands up in surrender.

"Who was that?" Amelia smirked.

"No one!" Matilda shook her head, closing her eyes for a quick second.

"I thought you were into women," Amelia thought aloud.

"I am into both," Matilda let out a frustrated sigh, kissing Jocelyn on the head, grabbing her keys and coat off the chair in the process.

"Bye Mom," Jocelyn muttered with a mouth full of cereal.

"Bye love," Matilda said, nearly the whole way out the door. "Let's get back onto topic. He spent the night?!"

"Yeah," Maggie said, the phone now in her hand.

"And?" Matilda made her way towards her car, unlocking it and sliding into the drivers seat.
