Chapter 18: Search and Rescue

A/N: Hi.

(Echo's POV: 24 Hours before the ending of Chapter 17)

I flew up in desperation as the ships carrying Benjamin took off, ignoring Sojourn's calls and flying as fast as I could to catch up with them. But just as I was about to reach the ship containing Ben, a giant bomb was latched off the boat, hitting me directly and causing me to disfunction as I fell into the ocean, entering repair mode and turning off my consciousness. 

I suddenly woke up to Athena's logo present on my sensors, groaning as Athena attempted to get my attention. 

"Agent Echo, are you alright?" Athena asked as my consciousness began to reform. 

"Ben... where is he?" I asked, my vision altogether forming. 

"I'm afraid we are unable to track Ben's location. Any connection or link he has to us has been removed from our systems; I'm sorry," Athena responded. 

I then reactivated and exited repair mode, where I found myself in Winston's lab inside the control room. In it was Jessie, who was smoking a cigar as I reawakened. He noticed and threw the cigar into a trash bin before helping me down. I was placed in a pod not too far off from the one I was placed in during quarantine. I attempted to fly past McCree, but he held tight, ensuring I had still. 

"Easy partner, we can't lose two members now, don't we?" he asked. 

Fear suddenly entered my database as the numerous possibilities of Ben dying plagued my mind. I began to feel an overwhelming amount of pain and frustration build up inside me, and I wanted to cry in any way possible but couldn't, which only brought me more pain. Jessie quickly caught on to my sadness and patted my back. 

"You did what you could, but don't worry, and Talon wouldn't just kill someone they captured. If they wanted to do that, they would've done it right then and there," he assured. 

The possibility of Ben dying was cut in half, leaving me more comforted. But it didn't destroy my drive to save him only grew. But my admiration didn't make me crazy. That's against my programming... for the most part. 

"The others, Amelie, are they all alright?"

"Reinhardt broke his arm, Winston was shot a couple of times on the shoulder, Mei was shot in the leg, and Jack took an explosion, but for the most part, everyone else is OK. We insisted Amelie hide, but she grabbed a sniper and helped us out. She's one of the reasons Talon had to leave before they got anything else," He said.

"That's something to be thankful for. How long was I out?

"A day and a half. The guns and defenses are back online, but Sojourn and Jack are thinking about evacuating now that we're so vulnerable," 

"Are we going to the Swiss Base then?" I asked.

"More than likely, considering its size and location, Talon's never really found it since JaGabe Gabe's fight. With some Vishkar technology, we should be able to rebuild it,"

"I see," I murmured as we headed out of the room.

There I saw Sojourn, Jack, and Ana all discussing what we should do regarding Benjamin's rescue. Amelie was with them, crossing her arms as the leaders debated.
