Chapter Four: Typical

I did keep my promise to Floyd that I would be gone in the morning. I was however unconscious and completely unaware that I was doing so. I wake up with a bright light in my face, and my hands cuffed behind my back. A familiar pair of hard brown eyes are looking into mine. Someone is talking, but I can barely hear them. Was I drugged?

"Good to see you Ace." Flag's voice is way too loud, "Don't worry, this should wear off any minute."

I groan and wait. Pretty soon, the feeling does wear off. Flag is talking to someone with his arms folded across his chest. It better not be Waller. But it can't be. She would know better than to just cuff me to a chair.

Flag notices I'm alert and walks back over to me, "You really left me on a cliffhanger."

"Well considering I was hanging on the side of a building because of you, I think we're even." I say blearily.

He grunts, "Yep. It definitely wore off if you're able to make stupid comments."

I try to nod, but I just end up rolling my head to my other shoulder.

"And by the way, I wasn't the one who blew up your apartment." He added.

"Sure you didn't pull the trigger, but you still told Waller."

"No I didn't."

I sit up, "You didn't?"

He glances away for a moment, seeming to make a decision in his head. Then he pulls a chair in front of me, and sits down.

"Waller and I... aren't exactly on good terms." Flag admits.

I nod, "You finally realized she's just as evil and psychotic as she says I am?"

"No." Flag says, then doubles back, "Well not exactly. I can't explain everything right now, but the point is, Waller blew up your place. She's been listening in on my calls ever since our mission."

"Why would she do that?" I ask, confused.

"I'm sure you've noticed she's got some serious trust issues." Flag jokes, "But, she does have reason to be suspicious."

"Oh the suspense is killing me." I say dryly.

"The mission, you know, June..." He takes a minute to sort his words, "Waller wanted to make sure that June wasn't still connected to Enchantress somehow. Waller was worried about any lingering powers, or Enchantress returning somehow. But anyway, she told me she was going to keep June for a month. And then a month turned into a year and a year turned-"

"You're saying Waller has been keeping June for four years?" I stare at him. I know Waller's evil, but that's just crazy.

He runs a hand through his hair, "Yes."

"Have you been able to see her?"

"At first yes, but now..." He drifts off, "I'm worried about June, and Waller knows that. She's scared I'm going to do something."

I have an idea of where this is going, "Why haven't you turned me in?"

"I'm supposed to." Flag says, "But I think you know why."

"Flag, are you giving me a mission right now?" The familiar feeling creeps over me, and I almost feel excited for what he's going to say next.

He sighs, "Yes."

I can't help but smile, "Alright then. Got a plan?"

"If I let you out of these handcuffs, you won't kill me right?" Flag stands up.

"Oh these?" I hold them up, "I've been out of those for awhile."

He sighs, then chuckles. I hand over the cuffs, and lean forward to listen to this plan.

"I mean... there isn't much of a plan. I just need you to break her out." Flag admits.

"I'm assuming you can't go because of Waller." I fill in the blanks.

"Right." Flag says, "But I'll be in your ear. And you won't be totally alone."

"Who else is going?" I ask suspiciously.

He doesn't answer. He simply moves aside. A tiny but familiar woman steps out of the shadows, her eyes challenging me even from behind her mask. Of course I remember her, and I'm sure she remembers me. Harley did piss her off, so I'm positive she would love to try to kill me with that sword. She folds her arms, confirming my suspicion. Flag watches, his lip twitching up in amusement.

"Yeah you guys are gonna make a great team." He grins.

"Wouldn't I be less noticeable on my own?" I look at Flag.

"Katana's capable." Flag says, "Plus, if you run into trouble, she knows more about Waller than you do."

"Katana can also speak for herself." She steps forward, sizing me up, "The question is, why do I need you?"

"Ask Flag. I'm not sure why I'm here either." I shrug.

"Ace knows the layout of the building." Flag says, "She's done missions here in the past."

I look at him, wondering how he would know that. He shrugs and explains, "I read your file."

"So what mission? What building?" I ask.

"Luther's old lair LexCorp. After he... ya know, had his whole superman debacle, Waller made sure the building was under her division. It's got all of Luther's old research, along with Waller's new additions." Flag explains.

"Which are?" I probe.

"Prison cells." He says, "Unethical experimentations. You know Waller."

I nod in understanding.

"I'm not sure exactly where June is being kept, but I can get you close." Flag continues.

"That's the whole plan?" I ask skeptically.

"Yeah..." Flag admits, "Oh and since this has to be stealthy, don't bring Harley into this."

"I wasn't planning on it." I say.

They both look at me sharply.

"Did you and the psycho break up?" Katana asks.

I scoff, "No. My love language is just not bringing the people I love into dangerous situations."

They glance at each other and shrug, but they drop it.

"So..." I change the subject, "What's in it for me? Other than getting a jab at Waller in."

"After the mission, I'll get you, Harley, and Cass out of Gotham. I've got a safehouse you can stay at." Flag says.

I frown, "Out of Gotham? Why?"

"Waller won't stop coming after you." Flag says, "Given your history, and your new powers, she's VERY interested in you."

I nod, but it's still a shocking thought. I've never lived anywhere besides Gotham. Sure, my childhood wasn't exactly butterflies and rainbows here, but still... Then I think of Harley and Cass. I can't keep putting them in danger. Flag is right. We have to get out of Gotham. A new adventure I guess.

"So." Flag holds out his hand, "Do we have a deal?"
