I bolt towards the tunnel once again. I can hear Katana's voice in my earpiece, telling me to come back. I ignore her, climbing back through the secret tunnel, and back into the lab. I wish there was more time. Waller has so many secrets in this room. But right now, I just have to save the Bat.

Katana's voice through the earpiece, "Ace, I can't save you this time. You're on your own."

"It's ok." I reply, "Save yourself."

I hurry down the stairs, to where the body of Batsy lay. I frown and lean down, grabbing his arm and pulling him up. Fortunately my strength has returned, so picking up the brute is no problem. Although...

I glance across the room, where the ring still lays on the ground. I've never seen anything like it. I bite my lip. There's really no time but... if there's one thing in this room I need to save, it's that ring. Somehow, it's important. I drop the bat for a moment, and search for the ring. The green glow makes it easy to find. When I pick it up, it feels heavy in my hand. The energy I felt earlier returns. I shove it in my pocket, and return to the bat. I haul him over my shoulders, and climb the stairs again. There's no doubt now about the serum. The healing properties were just the beginning. This strength... it's unnatural. And it comes from the man himself. Superman.

Getting Batman back through the tunnel proves much more difficult than carrying him. I awkwardly shove him through, hoping I don't break anything important in the process. Did the scientists really take this tunnel everytime they came down here? Surely there's another door. Or hell, Waller probably made them live down there.

I cringe as Batman falls on the other side with a thud. That's awkward. This is definitely not the image of the cool, dark Batman the media likes to show. I climb through after him, and pick him up once again. I glance at my watch. I'd better get moving. It had already been 6 minutes. If Katana was right about how much time I had, I had better run. And that's what I do. I spot another one of the red blinking lights in the hallway, blinking faster now. It's speeding up. Fuck, we're not going to make it. Somewhere underneath us, the first bomb goes off. The ground shakes, nearly taking us down. I regain my balance and keep running. Running is the only thing that can save us now. I can see the doors now, and I make a last effort. There's another explosion behind us as we reach the doors. I push the door, expecting it to just open, but it doesn't budge.

No.

I rip the door off its hinges, and throw it aside. Behind it is a metal wall. The barricade must have gone into effect not long after the bombs were triggered. We're trapped. Another explosion, so close this time I can feel the heat on my back. I kick the door, but it's no use. I put the bat down and punch it with all my might. I manage to dent it, but there's no way I'll be able to get through in time. It's no use, but I keep trying. I hope Katana made it out. Maybe I'm immune to fire? I doubt it. And even if I am, Batman certainly isn't. And I'm not big enough to shield him. The structural support of the building is melting, and the roof is crumbling in parts. We're not going to get out.

My fist breaks through the metal, reaching through to the cold night air. But the hole is too small. I try to pull it apart, but I'm just too weak. The heat all around us is starting to get to me. I double over coughing, the smoke in my lungs, my head swimming from lack of oxygen. I slide down the metal wall, next to the body of Batsy. Dying next to the enemy. This is not how I wanted to go. But what did I expect? To die of old age with my loved ones? No. I'll die a criminal's death.

Suddenly, there's a crunching noise, mechanical sounding. The tearing of metal. I look up blearily. A hand grabs my shoulder, and drags me through the destroyed metal doors. Did Batsy wake up? No. His body is being dragged next to mine. I look up at our savior. It's her.
