 "What now?"

Flag leaves my question unanswered. He's been sitting at a desk for hours, pouring over papers. Katana went to bed as soon as we got home, but I couldn't sleep. You'd think I'd be tired, but I'm just restless.

"Flag."

"What." He mutters in annoyance.

"You have to tell me what's going on in that thick skull of yours." I say, "Let me help you."

"Yeah?" He looks over his shoulder at me, a bitter look on his face, "How can you help me?"

"Ouch." I say, "You know, I'm not just muscle."

"Oh really?" His eyes flash, "When have you been anything more than someone's goon? Waller, the Joker, who knows else. I'll call you when I need someone dead."

I know he's just saying it out of fear for June. He doesn't mean it. But that doesn't mean it doesn't sting.

"You're lucky I'm bothering to help you." I retaliate.

He stands up, pushing back his chair, "I'm the lucky one? You need me Ace. You don't know what the hell is going on with your powers."

"Neither do you." I scoff, "And it's not like you've offered to help me figure it out."
"I know more than you think." His eyes darken.

I'm tired of his tough guy bullshit. I grab his throat and shove him into the closest wall. He glares at me.

"If you know something, you'd better tell me. I thought we were a team." I say.

Our conversation is interrupted by the sound of heavy boots coming towards us. Katana stands behind me, with her arms folded.

"Ace, I need your help with something." She ignores the fact that I look like I'm about to murder Flag.

"Right now?" I let go of Flag.

"Yes." Is all she says before turning away.

I give Flag a glare, then follow her.

"What are you two up to?" Flag demands.

"Just girl problems." Katana replies.

When we're out of Flag's earshot, I mutter, "What are you actually up to?"

"Outside." She says quietly.

I follow her out a backdoor, and into the cold night air. She pulls something out of her pocket and passes it to me. I click a button on my sleeve, and a soft glow illuminates the paper she handed me. I uncrumple it, and look up at her in surprise.

"I found it in the records room." She says, "I grabbed it before I followed you and Batman."

"The date is from-"

"Today." She nods, "It's a delivery slip. Someone was supposed to deliver something to that building."

"Deliver what?" I ask,

"It doesn't say what. But it does say who." Katana points to something on the bottom of the page. It's an emblem of an animal. It looks like a lion.

"What is that?"

"You don't know?" She asks, "You should. You worked for Sionis right?"

"Only for a few days." I recall.

"It was a crime syndicate. Sionis was trying to make an alliance with them, but they turned him down. He killed the leader, and supposedly that was the end of the organization, but apparently not." She says.

"What is it called?"

"The Golden Lions."

"So Waller is working with them? Why?"

"Whatever she is doing is definitely unsanctioned by the U.S. government. But under the table, she can do whatever she wants."

"That doesn't make sense." I frown, "She practically is the government!"

"She still has people to answer to."

"So whatever was being delivered..." I trail off.

"She didn't want the government to know about." Katana finishes.

"Why didn't you tell Flag about this?" I ask.

"He's... not himself." Katana looks back towards the building, "I don't trust his state of mind."

"So why are you telling me?" I ask.

"I'll need your help." She smiles.

"With what exactly?"

"We're going to make some new friends with the Golden Lions."

3rd Person POV

Waller didn't look up from her work as the looming shadow appeared behind her.

"Well? What did you find?"

"There was nothing." The gruff voice replied, "They must have escaped before I got there."

"No clue about who it was?" She asked.

"Not at the lab. Did you catch anything on the cameras?"

"Nothing. Whoever it was was smart enough to disable them."

"What was going on in that lab anyway?" Batman asked.

At that, Waller turns around, "I already told you. We were digging through Lex Luthor's work."

"Why was it rigged to explode?" Batman questioned.

Waller looked him up and down, "Why are you asking so many questions?"

"I don't work for you." Batman reminded her, "I work with you, and only because I think you're doing the right thing."

"Are you suggesting I'm not?" Waller studied Batman. He had changed since the last time they saw each other. Had he seen something at the lab?

"I'm suggesting that anyone who rigs their own building to explode must have something to hide."

"Of course there's something to hide." Waller scoffed, "It's a government building."

They stared at each other in a silent standoff. Finally, Batman looked away, "Is that all?"

"That's all. For now." Waller turns back to her papers, "Oh and Bruce." She paused, "If I find out you're lying to me, I'll deal with you accordingly."

Author's Note: I read an old comment saying that even though Waller is the bad guy she's also a bad bitch, and I couldn't agree more.
