The dull sun seeped through the silver blinds as I slowly opened my eyes. I rubbed the space between my furrowed eyebrows, remembering yesterday's horrible events. I killed my muum. The woman who had raised me and cared for me all of my damn life; I killed her.
I felt my eyes begin to water but I rubbed them instantly so no tears would slip out. I slowly rose from the top bunk on my bed and rested on my elbows. Alex was fast asleep on the floor. Snoring lightly. I chuckled. He always falls out. His eyelids flickered lightly as his chest gently rose up and down in a soothing rhythm.
"Al?" I whispered. "Wake up buddy." He slightly stirred as I said his name. "Alex. Get your ass up now." I said, giggling a bit. His eyelids groggily opened as I called for him again.
"Hmm...?" He mumbled as he swept his messy brown hair from his face. "I'm... Awake... I'm..." He managed to say, his words trailing. His eyes suddenly shot open.
"Dude. I had the worst dream." He said. Dark circles formed under his eyes overnight. "Basically, we were in school and Jonathan told us to get out because some fucking mania-" He slowly said. I cut him off.
"It wasn't a dream." I said sternly. "That happened, I killed my mum." A lump formed in my throat.
"Shiiit." He breathed. "Where's Johnny?" He said, looking around the room. His blue eyes tiredly scanned his mattress where a tiny patch of blood replaced Jonathan's body. "Must be downstairs already." He sighed.I ran my fingers through my matted red hair. "I'm having a shower, I won't be long. I think we have cereal downstairs, go eat something." I said, smiling lightly. "I'll be down in a bit." I climbed down the metal ladder from my bunk bed and walked barefoot to the bathroom.
Alex's POV.
I rubbed my eyes and picked myself off of the floor. Stumbling towards Cody's bedroom window, I peered out into the street. Bins had been knocked over and windows had been smashed, I could only see one car but it seemed to have been completely battered. The street looked so lonely.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Cody's neighbor hunched over her 8 year old son, biting his ankle while he was screaming for help. I looked the other way, instantly feeling sick.
What the hell has gone on? Everyone is acting like zombies. I shuddered and ran my fingers through my hair. I hope my dad is okay. And my older brother, Frankie. I had always wanted to be like him. He was a perfect son; great at sports, had lots of friends, had a job. He has a lot of things I wish for everyday. I sighed at the thought of my brother.Walking downstairs, I noticed tiny droplets of blood on the carpet. That must've been Mrs. Miko's blood when she got attacked by her so called husband, however, they looked fresh.
I strolled to the kitchen and fixed myself a bowl of cereal and one for Cody too. Where's Johnny? I thought to myself. "Johnny?" I called as I walked into the living room. I saw a scribbled note left on the floor, it was spotted with blood.'don't come looking for me, I've been bitten. I think I'm turning into a freak, I feel a burning pain all up my arm and I can't take it anymore. Be good guys. I'll miss you so much.
-johnny'
I gasped and my hands started shaking. I dropped the note and ran to the front door; following the small blood drops. A bloodied hand print was smeared on the handle and the door was slightly ajar. I screamed.
