The warm drops of water rained down on my back, soaking my entire body. I exhaled as I felt all of the dirt on my body wash away down the drain. I poked the podgy skin that hung on my hips and rubbed the blue shower gel over my body. The bubbles covered my belly as a beautiful scent was released.
I turned the shower off and stepped onto the cold marble tiles. I grabbed a fluffy towel from the rack and dried my body. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw my mums jewelry glisten in the early morning sunlight. I picked up her silver chain necklace and hesitantly put it around my neck; the cool metallic feeling sent shivers down my exposed back. I glanced at the chain resting on my freckled collarbones in the steamy mirror.
Wrapping the towel around my waist, I headed down the stairs to find Alex sobbing on the carpet with a crumpled note in his hands, my face fell as his crystal eyes stared into mine. Tears were slipping down his flushed cheeks and spilled on his shirt.
"Alex? What's wrong?" I asked, slowly walking towards him. Tears filled my eyes, making my vision blurry. "You're... You're... Not bitten... Are you?..." I said, my voice trembling. The all too familiar lump formed in my throat, choking my words.
"No." He whispered. Looking at the carpet, he continued. "But Johnny has." He let out a muffled cry as he raised his hand to his mouth.
I ran down the rest of the stairs and put my arm around his shaking body.Alex broke the silence.
"He killed himself."
And then he cried in my arms.
