The sun was shining, birds were singing and the stench of rotting flesh lingered in the air.
I looked over at Alex and he gave me the most disgusted look I have ever seen.
"Cheer up buttercup, were going on an adventure!" I said, with a bit too much sarcasm in my voice. He glared at me with his piercing blue eyes and jumped in my old car.
Strange, I didn't remember unlocking it.
I threw our bags in the back and strode over to the driver's seat. Sitting down, I put my hands on the cool steering wheel and brought the little car to life. I could tell Alex was tense because when he gets anxious, he nibbles on his lips.
"I didn't know you were hungry." I said, letting out a little laugh.
"Oh shut up Cody." He replied, his brown hair shook as he chuckled. He looked at me with those beautiful eyes and smiled.
I felt something kick my seat.
My entire body stiffened up as I hesitantly looked in the rearview mirror. My eyes met pitch black ones that seemed to be staring into my soul.
The car screeched to a stop on the deserted street. One word left Alex's mouth.
"Johnny?"
And with that, he lunged at him in one swift motion. Alex opened the door as fast as he could and jumped out; I did the same and shut the door on Johnny's foot.
"Fuuck..." I breathed.
Alex had a fist full of hair, but it wasn't his.
I peered in the car and saw a red and irritated patch of skin on Johnny's head. Fuck, that wasn't even Johnny anymore. He's a damn zombie.Alex's eyes stared into the car, unblinking. He had a large scratch over his nose and it was bleeding, a lot.
I ran over to him and he wouldn't move, he was in complete shock.
"Alex!" I shook him furiously but he wouldn't get out of his trance.Fuck. This.
A long metal object rested on a battered car. As I sprinted closer, I could tell it was a crowbar, slightly rusted.
I picked it up with my quivering hands and jogged back to the car."Get back. Now." I said sternly to Alex. I watched him as he nervously backed away. He had beads of sweat trickling down his temple. His blue eyes were half closed.
Okay...
I held my breath as I opened the door, allowing Johnny to crawl out from the back seat. Almost in an instant, he leapt for me, his broken jaw jittering as he ran.
A lump was under his sleeve, one that I had noticed before but this time the blood had turned a dark brown and the puss had blended into it, making it a very sickly mixture.Clenching the crowbar in my hands, I took a deep breath and swung for his face. I heard a gut wrenching crunch and he fell to the floor.
I turned around to face Alex,He had a look of terror on his pale face.
I snapped my body back to Johnny, who happend to have a crater in the side of his head, the blood oozed from it onto his angered face.
He charged at me, faster than anything I had ever seen. His body pushed me to the floor, knocking the red crowbar out of my sweaty hands.
My head hit the concrete and I momentarily lost my vision.
I opened my eyes to Johnny's face over mine, trying to bite at it. His saliva coated my face and the blood from his wound dripped on me, blending in with my hair.Oh fuck, I'm going to die.
I tried to hold him off but he was far too strong.
I closed my eyes and in those few seconds, I saw my mothers smiling face. She was no longer battered and bruised; she looked angelic. I then saw Alex laughing and running his hand through his hair.
Is this what death feels like?
I allowed my arms to relax as I braced myself for impact.
"CODY!"
I opened my eyes to the sound of a gunshot.
