"So?" Alex asks, settling down on the sofa in her apartment.
"So?" Amari repeats, as Alex raises an eyebrow at her, "you know what I'm asking, Mar. You promised you'd tell me."
"I know," Amari sighs, sitting down beside her.
"So are you going to tell me?" Alex responds.
"Yes," Amari nods, as Alex takes ahold of her hand, "Mar, whatever she said to you, you need to know she's just trying to get into your head, you can't let her."
"She said that I was just one of your play things, that you'll dispose of me once you've had your fun, that it runs in your blood," Amari states.
"What else?" Alex asks softly.
"She told Polly that you called her 'Mum'," Amari replies, "and then..."
Amari chokes on her words, as Alex's eyebrows furrow in worry, "Mar, it's okay, take a deep breath."
"She called me a darkie," Amari says, watching as Alex's jaw twitches slightly, inhaling deeply trying to calm herself, lifting her hand to wipe a tear on Amari's cheek.
"It seems so stupid to cry over a word," Amari sighs.
"It's not stupid," Alex replies, "your emotions aren't stupid, Mar."
"What are you going to do?" Amari asks.
"Nothing right now, I'm staying here with you," Alex responds.
"And later?"
"They won't be able to find her body," Alex says, pulling Amari onto her lap, the woman looking down at her, "for me?"
"Oh, anything for you," Alex responds, leaning back against the sofa, as Amari presses a kiss to her lips, her hand going into Alex's hair, as her arm locks around Amari's waist.
"I love you," Alex mumbles softly against Amari's lips, and Amari felt like there was a million butterflies inhibiting her stomach, "I love you too."
-
"Where've you two been?" Alex asks, her arm around Amari's shoulders as Isaiah and Michael stride into the snug, Aidan trailing behind them. There was a smidge of blood on Michaels collar, Isaiah had a black eye and all three had bruised knuckles.
"The Marquis," Isaiah answers.
"Some idiots tried to stop us from drinking," Michael adds, looking at the eldest brother, "we fought them off. Arthur, we had to stand our ground and we did."
"Why didn't they want you drinking there?" Alex questions.
"Me," Isaiah states, "the guy was with Vanessa."
"The Marquis, eh?" Arthur says, as the siblings stand up.
"Finn, sit down," Alex orders, leaning down to kiss Amari's cheek.
Amari takes a hold of her hand as Alexandria steps away, looking up at her with pleading eyes, "be careful."
"She'll be fine," John assures, clapping a hand on his sisters shoulder, "Finn, don't nick any of my chips."
"Alex, where are you going?" Michael inquires.
"Use your brain, Michael," Alex responds, following Arthur and John out of the snug.
-
"Move," Alex states, shoving a man off his chair, pulling it out from beneath him, and sitting opposite her mother.
"Alex, you could at least say please, have you been taught no manners?" Vanessa tuts.
"Is that really what you want your last words to be?" Alex replies, as Arthur and John clear out the pub, pulling the man that was sat with her mother away from the crowd, slamming him against the bar.
