The two women walked down through the town and found Midvale town centre's greatest attraction amongst the youth. The ice rink.
Lena had never even thought of going to a ice rink. None if her friends at her boarding schools had been, or not that she knew of, and she never mixed with any other crowd of friends. Her friendships always seemed to be distant and short-lived. That's probably what made Kara so different to begin with, she kept trying to get close, like she truly cared about getting to know Lena.
Kara however used to be the reigning champion of the semi-annual ice rink competition, where they held challenges, races and team game competitions, for a week every 6 months. And of course Kara was team captain of the ice-hockey team for 5 years running, except she never got to play in any important matches I case she became too well-noticed. Basically, she's a regular.
Well, she was until that incident last year where she hit the ice-hockey puck so hard it made a tiny slit in the barrier, 2 rows of chairs and a reasonably deep dent into the outer wall, and Alex sprained her ankle from jumping out the way and falling awkwardly. She'd been quite too nervous to go back again, even though it was a huge accident, and she had since learnt how to fully control her super-stregth unlike in her teenage years.
However, on their awkward walk into town, Kara asked Lena what she wanted to do, and Lena, amidst her ramble for ideas, had mentioned that she'd overheard some folk in the year above who'd gone there for a party, and how she'd never been and was far too scared to try. Then Lena suggested instead they go to an art supply shop then go to the museum and paint and have their friends vote on who's was best.
Kara, hearing Lena had never gone ice-skating, lost her mind and dragged Lena towards the building by her arm, as if she hadn't been avoiding the slightest physical contact the past 10 minutes before that.
She took a deep breath, it had been a while since she'd been back, and stepped up to the front desk, paid for them both, and hired a pair of ice skates each, despite Lena's continuous protests. Lena even tried to pull Kara away by the arm, but to her surprise Kara felt like a rock held in place, immovable, it felt as if even her skin didn't react to her touch. So, begrudgingly, she followed Kara in.
"Kara, seriously, please. I've never done this before, I'm gonna fall over, and it'll be awful!"
Instead she said, "Don't worry! It'll be fine! You'll be fine, I promise! I'll be right there with you, I'll help you."
There was a pause, Lena seemed to partially consider it.
"Come on, aren't you all for learning experiences??"
Lena frowned, yes, part of her wanted to try this, but another part of her didn't want to make a fool of herself in front of everyone, in front of Kara. She was skilled at so many things, this was not one of them.
Kara knelt down and undid Lena's laces for her, "I'm not letting you get away without trying this." She said with an evil grin plastered across her face.
Lena then slid off her trainers and awkwardly tried to fit her foot into the skate, managing it with force, then putting the other on. Kara was already done by the time Lena finished clamping her skate's buckles. Kara grabbed Lena's things and put them in the locker with her stuff.
Lena looked up at Kara nervously, then looked around her for something she could hold onto to help her up. She put her hand on the bench, and the other one Kara grabbed, steadying her while Lena stepped onto her right foot first, then Kara took her other hand, then she was standing up. With a wobble, she leaned her weight on Kara.
"Oh, okay, I think I can stand up"
Lena finally looked up from her feet to Karas face, who was clearly stopping herself from laughing.
