I haven't dedicated a chapter to anyone yet. So the first person that leaves a comment gets this chapter dedicated to them. :)
I get in the car with Amanda and she immediately starts to lecture me.
"What the hell have you been doing? You didn't answer any of my calls or texts! I was supposed to come pick you up after the party! You had your mother worried sick!! What if Greyson was some kind of cannibal or something and tried to eat you? I can't believe-" She stops mid sentence as soon as she gets a look at my face.
"Oh my god Daniel, are you okay?" She asks full of worry. I must have looked pretty upset because the only time she ever calls me Daniel and not Dan is when things are serious.
I wipe away the tears that escaped from my eyes. Ugh, I hated crying but I couldn't help it. That woman threatened the one thing that meant the most to me in the world. She threatened my family; my mother, my father, and even Amanda. I would do anything to protect them which means that I had to stay away from Greyson. It sounds easy but there is one problem with that solution that scares the living crap out of me. I don't know if I can.
Although I barely even know anything about Greyson there is something about him that makes my heart flutter. Just the thought of those gray eyes makes something stir inside of me and there's a pang of hurt at the thought that we might never get to explore whatever this feeling was between us.
"Daniel talk to me. Why are you crying?" Amanda asks again. I sigh and tell her the whole story.
"Maybe it's for the best Mandy. Maybe we were never meant to be. I mean, Greyson is only attracted to me when he's drunk and he clearly gets his homophobia from his mother. You were right, getting closer to him will only get me hurt."
Amanda turns to stare out of the car window chewing on her lip which means that is deep in thought. We had arrived at my house over ten minutes ago. Finally after several minutes she sighs.
"Look I don't particularly like the guy. I've always been wary of guys who are shrouded in mystery but if the thought of never seeing him again is making you this upset then I don't think staying away from him is for the best."
"So are you saying that I should be selfish and let this woman get my Dad fired from his job?"
"No. I'm saying that maybe you should talk to Greyson. If he truly cares about you then he won't let his mother do this."
I stare at her incredulously. "How the hell am I supposed to talk to him when even being seen with him can ruin my family's life!?"
"You don't have to be near him to talk to him."
"That doesn't make any sense. If you're suggesting that I call him I don't want to take the risk of his mother seeing my name on his Caller ID."
"No, what I'm suggesting is that I could talk to him for you."
"It sounds like a good idea but I'm not sure. I mean this woman hired a private investigator she probably knows that you're like family to me."
Amanda looks out the window with a scowl on her face. "Greyson's mother sounds like a complete bitch."
I chuckle at that. "Yeah, but I don't really blame her."
Amanda looks at me alarmed. "Are you sure you didn't drink last night?"
I elbow her. "No. I mean I just understand that she'd do anything to protect the ones she loves."
"Yeah, well she doesn't have to be such an asshole about it. I mean talk about a control freak."
