The paramedics grabbed an AED machine and began shocking Daniel's heart which had stopped beating.
"Daniel!" I yelled.
"Daniel come on, wake up!"
They shocked it again. Still no response.
"Come on baby."
Another shock no response.
"Please. Don't leave me."
Another shock. No response.
I don't think he's coming back. One of the paramedics said. I think this is it.
"No!" I screamed. "Try again! You have to try again!"
The paramedic looked at Greyson. Maybe it was how broken he looked, maybe it was the pure desperation in his face that made the paramedic turn around and try to bring Daniel back to life one more time.
Greyson ran to Daniel's side. Daniel didn't deserve this. He was the sweetest guy who never did anything wrong. He smiled all of the time. He loved everyone, he even tried to love Greyson's broken pieces back together. He didn't deserve to die.
"I love you baby. I love you so much. Please come back babe." Greyson begged. Daniel probably couldn't even hear him. But he was doing it for his own sake as much as Daniel's. Because he felt like he was going to lose his mind. But Daniel had taught him to have hope. So Greyson looked down at Daniel's pale face with tears falling down his own and hoped with everything in his heart for Daniel to open his eyes again. One more time.
Last shock.
Greyson and the paramedics waited a few seconds.
And right before Greyson felt that all hope would be lost. Daniel sucked in a loud breath.
Greyson fell to the floor. The weight on his heart lifting a little. Daniel was alive.
"We have to get him to the hospital, NOW!" The paramedics screamed.
And they put Daniel in the back of the hospital truck and sped off.
Greyson walked past his mother who was still sitting in the same position. And took Amanda's hand who had been staring at the entire scene face filled with tears and hand cupped over her mouth.
"He's going to be okay, let's get to the hospital." Greyson reassured her.
Amanda and Greyson burst into the hospital and demanded the receptionist who was an old cranky lady that looked like a Golden Girls reject, to see Daniel.
"Daniel Connors is currently in surgery. So you'll have to wait." She said pointing to the waiting room.
Amanda put a hand on Greyson's shoulder.
"You know I kind of never liked you. Even though you're hot, I thought you were really depressing and crazy. I felt like your relationship with Daniel was borderline unhealthy. And your mom is a complete psychotic bitch. But the way you saved Daniel's life back there. I have to say I have a newfound respect for you." Amanda said bluntly.
"Um, thank you?" Greyson said.
"Anyways, I need to call Daniel's parents and let them know what happened and I don't know whether to tell them the truth or tell them something else..." Amanda faltered off.
Greyson understood what she was saying. Someone was going to go to jail for this.
Daniel had been shot. It didn't matter that Greyson was the one who intended to die today when an innocent person has gotten hurt.
"Tell them the truth. Tell them it was my fault." Greyson said finally.
Amanda stared at Greyson.
"But it wasn't really your fault. I mean sure you had a whole ass mental breakdown. And were prepared to traumatize us all, but your mom-"
"It doesn't matter. This is my fault. I caused all of this to happen. If I had never put myself in Daniel's life, he wouldn't be in this hospital."
Amanda shook her head.
"Daniel loves you. He knew what he had gotten himself into. And I'm sure he forgives you."
"But I can't forgive myself. I cant forgive myself for what happened to him."
"Well somewhere in that crazy head of yours you need to learn how to. How are you going to love Daniel, when you don't even love yourself? You were going to leave him all alone. Did you think about how emotionally scarring that would've been for him?"
The words of Greyson's therapist entered his head.
"You have to learn to love yourself before you can love someone else."
Amanda was right. Greyson's actions had been selfish. He had wanted to help Daniel and stop his mother. But he had only caused more pain.
"There is only one way to redeem yourself right now Greyson. Don't leave Daniel alone again." Amanda said finally.
Greyson looked at her but before he could answer. He was interrupted by a nurse tapping his shoulder.
"Are you Greyson Grey?"
Greyson nodded.
"The police would like to speak with you."
