Believe it or not, being a maid in the 21st century was not nearly as bad as one would think. I was paid well, had my own room in a separate house and always had plenty to eat and drink. Also, working for a well-known family elicited a sense of respect from others that I thoroughly enjoyed.
So every morning I would wake up at 5am and get ready. I slipped into my white socks, buttoned up my ankle length dark blue dress and adjusted the long sleeves till they fit comfortably. I smiled at my reflection as it became the one I was used to seeing everyday and put on the final piece that marked me as a Stark family maid- the long white pinafore apron with the Stark crest at the corner. Tying up my short, curly hair into a tight bun I was finally ready for the day.
As a maid in the summer house for the Stark family my days were very well structured. I would clean and organize some rooms for the day, just in case somebody happened to come by- which by the way nobody ever did. I had been working in this mansion for one year already and had never seen anybody except the other servants- but whatever, the pay was good. I would work for a ghost if I continued to get paid what I currently did.
The morning I got told I was going to meet the Starks was just like any other. I woke up at 5am, got ready and went to the main mansion to get my assignment for the day. On my way there I passed by the gardens in the back of the house and smiled as I noticed that the flowers were blooming. It was early summer and the dahlias were fully bloomed, making the garden much more beautiful than it already was.
Noticing that one of the dahlias was wilting, I looked around and seeing that nobody was there I reached out to it. Feeling the familiar warmth run through me, I looked down as I noticed the flower coming to life again, its pink petals lifting up to the skies once again.
"There you go," I whispered, "You can't be dying just yet." Hearing footsteps from someone running up to me, I quickly let go of the flower and turned around.
There was a small figure running towards me, red hair bouncing as she reached me.
"Aida!" Natalie said as she hugged me, "How are you?"
"Tired," I yawned, "How do you always have so much energy? The sun hasn't even come up yet."
As we talked, we finally reached the main house and gathered in the very spacious kitchen where the head maid would give us our daily tasks. The entire staff was made up of four maids, three butlers and the head maid and butler that led us all.
Natalie had started six months after I had and we had quickly become good friends. We were the two newest employees, getting a position as a maid in the Stark's home was not something just anybody could do after all. The other employees had all been working at the mansion for years, if not decades. Which really made me wonder how two positions had opened up so quickly one after the other, not that it was any of my business anyways.
"Good morning Aida, Natalie." The head maid greeted us as we walked in.
"Good morning Mrs. Braun." We both said as we sat down at the large island. Everybody else was already there, having a light breakfast of oatmeal that had been made for us.
"Now, as I'm sure you all know, the Starks will be coming back tomorrow for the summer." Mrs. Braun said, which I froze at since I did not know. I saw Natalie nodding next to me and seriously, when did we get told this? "Today I want all of you to go through your area and make sure it is spotless for when they come back."
Getting assigned the West Wing of the house, I made my way over and started in the main bedroom. The West Wing consisted of the main bedroom where Mr. and Mrs. Stark slept, their son's bedroom and the main office. Since I had already cleaned those areas in the last couple days, it should be a pretty easy day to just make sure everything was good.

In the afternoon, after lunch I decided to take a stroll in the garden. It was beautiful, truly my favorite part of the entire property. And what a property it was- the Stark's were old money and pretty much led the rich-people-social-circle.
Anthony Stark, the head of the current Stark family, was a well known genius since childhood. He attended the best school in the country, Swann Academy, and graduated early before going to MIT and graduating early from there too. Now he led the Stark Industries at the young age of 36 and focused on making revolutionizing technology. Stark Industries did everything from clean energy to advances in the medical field, well known all over the world for their philanthropy.
I was convinced they were hiding some dark secrets, since no multi-billion dollar company was good. It just wasn't a thing.
His wife, Virgina Potts-Stark, was not only the CEO of Stark Industries but also a well known socialite. Coming from old money herself, her and Anthony were childhood sweethearts- like literally together since they were 12 years old- and got married as soon as they turned 18. She pretty much did everything from charity galas, being a fashion icon to running a fortune 500 company.
Then their beautiful son- Peter Parker Stark. His adoption was on the front cover of every magazine and newspaper for weeks on end. Everyone knew about the tragic plane crash that killed Richard and Mary Parker and how Richards' best friend Anthony Stark stepped up and adopted the newborn Peter.
And Peter was living up to the Stark legacy. Only six years old and already interested in technology, having made his first robot last year.
I mean a six year old making a robot? Yeah, genius.
But, I digress. There I was walking through the garden while humming like a Disney princess when I got the best idea.
Flowers in their rooms. Not like it was a groundbreaking idea or anything, but it would make their rooms much more welcoming. So, hiding from the gardener who hated me, I went around plucking flowers until I had a giant bouquet.
Sneaking back into the mansion, making sure the gardener was nowhere to be seen, I went back to the West Wing and set up a beautiful arrangement of yellow roses. But, something was missing.
"Hmm, it could use some baby's-breath," I said as I placed my hand on the table. From there grew a bunch of the tiny flowers and I grabbed it and placed it throughout the arrangement, "Perfect!"
Making my way over to the passageway that leads from the garden to Peter's room, I placed a bunch of red roses and sunflowers in a vase. For some reason I felt like they were the perfect flowers for him, even though they weren't even in season. But it's not like a six year old is going to know much about flowers anyways.
After everything was done I went back and finished my last duty of the day- helping out in the kitchen. Today, I was in charge of preparing cinnamon rolls that would be served for breakfast the next day, one of Peter's favorites apparently.
My day finally finished, I said goodbye to everyone and walked back with Natalie and got ready for the night. It would be exciting to see how the Stark family truly was outside of all the rumors and I was looking forward to meeting them for the first time.
AN: Welcome to my new story! I am very excited about this one, which will be very different from Traveler. However, it should be a fun ride full of twists and turns. Also, I have a thing for tattooed Steve and Bucky and needed to write a whole book about them.
