It was a lovely day in San Francisco, Tommy had been thinking about the recent violent murders in London, he told Barbara about them and even she was confused. They talked about the murders inside the Inspector's Bristol as Tommy drove them back home to London that same day.
Tommy couldn't get his head around most of the murders but had agreed that corruption was in the army as Danielle had came to him for legal advice, this was after a sixteen year old boy was murdered in front of her very eyes.
"How would the killer know that Sir? None of this makes sense in my head." Barbara explained as her head began to hurt again, Tommy could not answer her questions, but simple replied; "The killer has to be getting the information from the records of the army, or they have been in the army."
"That would explain a lot Sir, but if that's the case then why go after women who beat up our mystery bullied girl, the killer clearly doesn't know them. I'd understand if it was someone who knew the girls, but this just doesn't make sense at all." Said Barbara again, this time rather frustrated as she cannot understand the killer's logic in the murders at all.
Tommy sympathised with his wife, he too couldn't understand the killer's logic, nor did he want too. He reached over and grabbed her hand, he squeezed it gently to let her know that she wasn't alone in her suspicions. She smiled softly at him, just then Tommy's phone rings and Barbara answers it; "Inspector Lynley's phone. Hi, yes we will be right there. We have to go to St Ashley's Green Court, a body has been found." Barbara explained to her husband as he nodded and then turned right to head towards St Ashley's Green Court, located near the train station.
After a ten minute drive, the pair arrived at the crime scene and they get out showing their badges to show the police officer who lets them through. "What do we have Jill?" Tommy asked her as she smiled seeing him.
"White male, approximately between the ages of fifty and sixty-five. Found decapitated, the device around his neck is what killed him. We found this next to the body." Jill says before handing Tommy the evidence bag with a note inside it, and he reads it aloud.
"Meet (well not meet) but here lies the body of Sergeant Major Harrison, 63, he let the army get more and more corrupted. He watched as the corruption turned the army into a laughing stock, he was also behind hiding the truth about an army who was forced to quit the army after being outed as bisexual. Have fun in catching me, signed Killer Queen. Are there any more of these, Jill?"
"Loads Tommy, with each victim a note is found explaining who they are and why they were killed."
"We've had letters of bragging and taunting, this killer likes the thrill of sport as well as watching us running around trying to find out who the killer is. Tommy, this killer is pyschopath." Explained George to the Inspector as he listened to them, just then a stick breaks behind them and Tommy sees Danielle.
She runs away but Tommy follows her as Barbara stays behind after Shane tells her about the killer watching them, Tommy catches up with Danielle, and she gives him a cuddle. They part from the cuddle and sit down on the bench; "What's going on Danielle?" He asked her as she wiped her tears away. "Everyone is traumatized Tommy! The killer has people hiding in their own homes, to scared to go out in case the killer is watching them. We all want London to be safe again, killers never scream their identity to anyone, whatever the killer wants the killer is going to get Tommy."
"Where's David?"
"Back here in London. I've seen him quite few times now, I don't engage with him nor do I ever stop to tell him to leave me alone. He isn't worth my time anymore Tommy, all I want is London to be safe again, what if it is him Tommy?"
Tommy looked at her, he had no reason to suspect her at all, and to be honest he was thinking it could be David doing all of this just to get her back under his control again. He held Danielle's face gently and spoke to her softly; "If it is him Danielle, I will protect you. I won't let him hurt you ok." With that she nodded before they embraced into a hug once more.
However, Tommy's phone bleeps with a picture message, he's horrified when he sees the picture of him and Danielle sharing a cuddle. He gets up from the bench and looks around but cannot see anyone, he decides to drive Danielle to Holby City as her protection. After dropping her off at Holby, he returns to the station with Barbara and they begin putting the pieces together.
"Most of these clues I know. For instant our mystery bullied girl is Serena Wolfe (formerly Serena Campbell)." He said surprising them all.
"How do you know Tommy?" Asked John slightly confused as they had not figured that out yet, so Tommy explained the story.
"April 1988, I was called to Deffry Vale school because of a severe beating which had led to a teenage girl left in a coma. Danielle was furious, when she found out and she stayed by Serena's bedside, the girls that had done it and filmed it. They posted it on YouTube, Instagram and Facebook, their friends liked it and shared it, Serena wasn't spared from it. So Danielle took her out of the school, and began homeschooling her, Serena felt more safe with Danielle than what she did at school. From what Danielle confided in me about, Serena was abused and bullied at Leigh Deffry primary school, the teachers just turned their backs."
"Basically turning a blind eye Tommy." Interrupted George as he had seen similar cases like it in his time. Tommy nodded and agreed, Jill looked down before remembering something else that the killer had previously mentioned. "Tommy, do you know anything about a gang rape?" Jill asked the Inspector as he shook his head, it had confused him.
They then headed home after a long day, Tommy paid a visit to Danielle and knocked on the door, Helen answered the door; "Tommy! Danielle said you was back in town."
"Yeah, I saw her this morning. Erm, is she in?'
"No, she is with Bernie and Serena at their house, Serena caught a bug after returning from holiday with Bernie. She hasn't been the same for a while now, Danielle won't take her to hospital." Helen explained to him as he nodded.
He sighed before asking the question; "Have you heard about a gang rape? Around three maybe four months ago."
"No I haven't, but I have heard about them murders that the killer is doing." She replied as a smile broadened his face.
"You can say no, it's up to you, but will you help with the profile of the killer please?" He replied as she sighed but agreed as it would give her something to do. "Why not! It will give me something to do as I am currently on leave, Grace is having fits again, she banged her head on the wall and that's how they have started. Danielle does come home which helps, she's just torn at the moment as two women need her."
"Bless her. Great, I'll stop by your officer with the gang, and we can have a look. Is that ok with you?"
"Yes that's fine Tommy." Helen said with a smile, then Tommy left and she closed the door, they had been doing much better since their divorce.
