Randy Bullet woke to the sound of banging on his cell door. He sat up on his cot and rubbed a hand through his white hair, now getting a bit dark at the roots. He'd been in solitary for a few days, but apparently that wasn't stopping the DOJ from bugging him.
"Good morning sunshine," the DOJ officer taunted him through the sliding panel on his door. "Get enough beauty sleep in there?"
"Forget it, Williams, I'm still not gonna sleep with you," Randy shot back. "No matter how much you try to butter me up."
"HA! You wish," Williams said.
"That's your big comeback, 'you wish'? What is this amateur hour? The hell do you want, man?"
The DOJ officer ignored the jab. "Today's your lucky day sunshine, you get to rejoin Gen Pop. Step up to the door and put your hands through so we can cuff you."
"Yeah I know the drill," Randy replied, shuffling over to the cell door and sticking his hands through the middle section as it opened.
Once they had secured him in cuffs and shackles the officers escorted him from solitary through the prison yard and into the main prison house. Several of the lifers watched him walk past, no doubt ready to spread gossip of his return from solitary amongst the general population. Any news was exciting to the ones that would never leave this place. Randy supposed that would be him one day if these cops had their way.
The DOJ officers placed him in his shared cell and uncuffed him, leaving him to get settled again. He turned and regarded his cell mate wearily. "Another exquisite day, my friend," he said, leaning against the bars.
"Welcome back," Mr K said, nodding his head. Why the idiots in DOJ decided to let the two of them share a cell was beyond Randy. The two of them fed off of each other's chaos. The schemes they had already come up with were the reason Randy had been put into solitary in the first place. He grinned at K.
"How's things in the outside, my bruddah?" The British man asked. K was silent for a while, making sure they went unheard. You could never be too careful. There were informants amongst the Gen Pop.
Once he was satisfied that they were not being observed, K nodded. "I've been in contact with my guy on the outside," he said. "The plan is coming together."
"We'll be out of here before we know it," Randy said with glee, rubbing his hands together. K smiled. If the smile was a little sad, Randy didn't notice.
"We got Vinny handling things in here for us, and he's got something massive cooked up."
"Really? What is it?"
K shook his head. "No, no, the less people that know the better."
"What?! But it's me, bruddah. You're not gonna tell me?"
"Not at this time, Randy. The mission's success is hinging on careful planning. And my contact on the outside has demanded that you are to be kept in the dark until necessary."
That grated on Randy's nerves. He hated being kept out of the loop. "WHO is this contact that you're trusting more than me?"
"It's not like that, Randy, we just need this to go a certain way. And I trust this person. They're someone who has made enough mistakes in the past and learned from them. So now they're extremely cautious. You would trust them too, believe me."
Randy glowered but accepted it. K wouldn't leave him out without reason. The cell doors in the prison started to roll open as the alarm sounded for yard time. Randy and K met up with several other CG members in the prison yard where they held court near the gardens. As the others welcomed Randy back from solitary, he noticed an increase of DOJ officers in the yard. He nodded his head towards one group. "What's with the extra cops today?"
