kate's pov-

I knock at Y/n's door, nerves filling my stomach. All day I've been contemplating whether this was the right choice or not. Like obviously I really like Y/n and I do want to go on a date with her, but at the same time, she's got a lot on her plate. She literally just got back from being kidnapped by hydra like two days ago, was just cleared from the med-bay today, found out that there's possibly a way to remove the programming, and I was like 'Hey I know you're like super stressed, and stuff but I'm super stressed cause I really like you!' Ugh, stop Kate. You already asked her out and she said yes. Deal with it.

The door opens and Y/n appears. She looks really pretty. Oh god. "Hey, you ready?"

She looks around, "One second." She retreats back into the room, opening a dresser drawer. She grabs something and puts it into her back pocket before returning to the door. "Okay, ready."

I walk with Y/n to Clint's car. I've convinced him to lend it to me for the evening, though he will definitely kill me if I so much as scratch it. His car is a Black A3 Audi. I round to the passenger side of the car, opening the passenger door. Y/n just looks at me confused. "Uhm, I don't know how to drive..." She says, embarrassed.

I chuckle, "No silly, I was opening your door for you. It's a chivalrous thing to do." I never thought about the fact that Y/n doesn't know of things like this due to her childhood experience. This must be very weird for her.

"Chivalrous..." She mutters.

"It means like doing things for other people. Holding a door open, offering your jacket when their cold, walking on the street-side of a sidewalk, things like that."

She nods.

"Just get in the car already!" I laugh.

"Right, sorry." She climbs into the car, gracefully. I gently shut the door and walk to the drivers side. I get in the car, put on my seatbelt, and start the car.

"So, do I get to know where we're going?" She asks. Her left leg is lightly bouncing and her hands are clasped tightly over her lap. I place my right hand onto her left leg in an attempt to comfort her.

She flinches when my hand touches her. I apologize quickly, "Sorry, I saw your leg shaking. Uhm- We're going to a new Shawarma place downtown. Have you had Shawarma before?"

"No, I don't think I have."

"Good."

Y/n's POV-

Kate drives us to some Shawarma place downtown. The drive is mostly quiet, Kate seems pretty focused on driving and I'm too nervous to converse. Instead, I watch the street signs, buildings, and people fall behind us. When we arrive, Kate allows me to open my own car door but insists on opening the door to the restaurant. "Shawarma is a popular Middle Eastern food, it's similar to like a wrap, but you can also get it in a bowl," Kate explains. "You can pick from all sorts of toppings and dressings to put inside."

Kate and I both order Chicken Shawarma with smoked rice. I get it wrapped while Kate gets hers in a bowl. We add various toppings and Kate pays for the food at the register. Of course, I thank her for doing so since I have no money. We find a table for two and sit down to eat. I quickly realize why Kate chose a bowl, "Shit!" I curse as more food falls from the wrap and onto my napkin. Sauce dribbles down my chin.

Kate laughs, "You got a little something." she says, pointing at my chin.

"I know I know" I groan, reaching for a napkin to wipe my face. I begin to realize why Kate chose a bowl. We spend the next hour talking and eating. Away from everything and everyone else, conversation comes easy. Kate tells me about her childhood, losing her father, fencing, how she met Clint, etc.

"They were called the Tracksuit Mafia??" I gape.

Kate nods, "Yep."

"Because they wore tracksuits?"

"Yep."

"That's a little on the nose don't you think?"

Kate's face lights up, "That's what I said!! They also said 'Bro' alot. Personally I think they should be called the Bro Mafia."

I laugh at that. "Creative."

"I know I know." Kate says, bowing her head.

30 minutes later, we finish up our food and leave the restaurant. Kate drives us back to the compound, we talk the entire way. I am learning mg so much about normal life. She pulls into a parking spot and turns off the car. I unbuckle my seatbelt and start reaching for the door when I realize that Kate hasn't moved, "Whatcha doin?" I ask.

"I have a feeling that there may be a couple of literal superheroes who may attempts to stalk us as if they have nothing else to do. So, we should probably decide what we're doing before we go in."

"You're likely right. What do you wanna do?"

Kate shrugs, "I don't really care, what do you wanna do?"

"I don't care either."

"Watch a movie in my room?" Kate suggests.

"Sounds perfect."

As we expected, there is a gathering of Avengers hanging out in the living room conveniently 'hanging out'. Wanda, Nat, Tony, Steve, and Sam are spread around the room 'watching' some tv show. Kate and I don't dare to make eye contact with any of them, fearing a conversation. We head straight to the elevator. Kate speaks up once the doors have closed, "that wasn't awkward at all." We giggle, watching the numbers tick upwards and the elevator comes to a halt. We exit and make our way to her room. Kate unlocks the door and holds it open for me. She turns on the tv, takes her shoes off, and flops onto her bed. She holds the covers open for me, so I remove my shoes before joining her.

A/n: Yes, another cliff hanger. Also sorry for ghosting y'all for so long, I've been super busy and unsure about how I wanted this story to go. After stepping back, I have had time to generate new ideas and I hope to start updating more consistently. Lots of love!
