Chapter Nineteen: The Ball

Dakota's POV

I walk into the bathroom with Cassie, she puts her stuff in the counter and I wave to Rue and hug Lexi before sitting on the counter next to Cassie

"Hey...wanna be my plus one to this ball my family is having...it's gonna be super boring and I need someone with me" I say as I swing my feet a bit

"Sure Kota...what should I wear" Cassie asks and I smile and lean closer to her

"Already got you a dress...just come over after school" I say and Cassie blushes and goes back to washing her hands

"Hey Cas, Kota....you guys auditioning for the play Oklahoma" Rue asks and I look up and shake my head

"No...we have a play coming up?" I say confused and Cassie nods, I see Lexi's head shoot up and she nervously looks towards us

"Yea, Lexi's play" Rue responds and I shrug my shoulder as does Cassie

"Well no...we're not..what's it about' I ask and Cassie just remains silent as she dries her hands

"Just uh...something...I wrote it" Lexi says  as I smile supportively

"Cool...we'll come to see it opening night" I say and Cassie smiles, I hear footsteps causing me to look over and see Kat and Maddy walking over to us

"Hey Kota" Maddy and Kat says quietly, the energy shifts as I see Cassie look away uncomfortably

"Hey Kota can I come over after school...I'm bored" Maddy says as she fixes her hair

"Yea me too, I wanna smoke" Kat says and I awkwardly jump off the counter

"Uh no can do girls...got a ball to go to with my family" I say and they sigh sadly

"Can we come...I've heard your family's parties are like really cool" Kat says and I shake my head

"Nah...I actually have a date...Cassie's coming with me" I say causing Kat and Maddy to look at me like I have two heads

"Your really inviting that slut over one of us" Kat says and I sigh as I feel Cassie grab my hand but remain silent

"Kat chill out...shit from New Years is old news plus don't go around slut shaming people" I say and she rolls her eyes

"I have a right to slut shame her...she fucked Nate and hurt you and Maddy...Maddy pleas talk some sense into your fuck buddy over here" Kat says looking for someone to agree with her as I give her a look

"Kat can you shut the fuck up....I don't care what Cassie and Dakota do..and serves you for slut shaming someone Kat...Cassie...come to my babysitting job tomorrow..we need to talk" Maddy says and Kat immediately shuts up, Maddy looks  to me and I mouth thank you before picking up Cassie's stuff and dragging her out of the bathroom

"I can't believe she stood up for me..is there hope, she even asked to hang out" Cassie says as she walk down the hallway

"Don't get ahead of ourselves Cas...she's just over the situation and understands where I stand and where she does...Kats just being a bitch" I say and Cassie sighs

Suddenly I see Nate walking over to us and I immediately put Cassie behind me

"Cas can I talk to you please...alone" He says and Cassie holds on to my arm

"No Nate...leave me alone, it's over between us" Cassie says before taking off down the hallway, Nate goes to follow her but I push him back

"Leave her alone...she's done with you" I say and Nate laughs
