The party was still going on and while it was, Light was drinking punch and slowly poured an alcoholic drink to it. He then drank some of it and then dumped it to the sink, knowing alcohol isn't for him. He was watching everyone talking and saw Near with sadness in his face. He went to him and spoke to the to the white haired 12-13 year old. "Hi, Near. Mind if I sit next to you?" He asked him and he nodded.
"Light, have you ever been in a party and nobody wants to talk to you? Or you try to talk to people, but you are shy and not sure how to be around them?" Near said, looking at him.
"Not really. Why? Are you feeling these right now?" He asked him and he nodded. Light felt bad for Near and asked him some more if he can put his hand on his shoulder. He shook his head no because he doesn't feel comfortable with him doing so right now. But he will allow him once they know each other better.
"You know something, Light? I really do think you're a great friend and boyfriend to L. He's lucky to have you and I'm very glad he's happy now. Before, he wasn't but he also never had time for a relationship because he worked on cases all the time and hadn't revealed himself to the public." Near told him, explaining how L used to be and all that. Light knew that L does mean a lot to him and was just as happy that he is in his life after three years. Especially since they started as rivals, then friends and late last year, their friendship became a romantic relationship.
"I'm happy he's happy. In fact, I have something to show you. It's a promise ring to symbolize our relationship and know that I want us to be together forever until we get engaged and then married." He said to Near, showing the ring which was silver and had a tiny diamond in the middle.
"It's really classy. Definitely his style." He grinned, very amazed by it. Near wanted to try it on and when he did so, he thought it looked really good on him. "Light, if L doesn't accept this ring. Can I have it?" He asked him and he chuckled, thinking this preteen is funny.
"Sure." He shrugged and Near handed the ring back to Light. Later that night, once everyone was gone, well, minus Roger, Mello and Near, Light started changing into his PJs and noticed L wasn't in the room. He then shrugged as he was tired now and was going to sleep. As he was sleeping, the door opened and closed afterwards.
"Light?" Near said quietly, holding his rabbit plushie. He was still wearing his same clothes as well as his socks.
"Yes, L?" He murmured in his sleep, thinking it's L. He then woke up immediately and saw from the other side of the bed, L wasn't there. "OH MY GOD!!!!" He shouted and made Near run away with tears as he was scared at the way Light raised his voice like that.
"What happened, Light?" Watari said as he showed up in his robe and glasses. He was definitely fucking Roger, there is no lie about it. Never mind about that, L is missing. Like full on disappearance.
"He scared me, Watari." Near told him with a whimper and tears from his eyes still. He was really that scared and Light felt bad for doing so. He wasn't the type to scare people, even though he's suspected to be Kira. Still, it was just terrible and awful of him to scare someone, especially if they are sensitive like Near.
"Near, I didn't see you until now. I'm so sorry. Please don't cry." He got up as he apologized to him. Watari went to bed since he was extremely tired now and would discuss this later in the morning. Near forgave Light and asked to sleep in his bed with him as he was afraid of the dark. "Sure thing. Just until L gets back." He said to him and this made the white haired boy smile again.
The next morning, Near was eating his breakfast. He wasn't a picky eater like ever. He can eat anything. Now, for drinks of choice, he prefers water and tea mostly. He doesn't like milk, juice or coffee. They all taste strange to him. At least, that's what he thinks. Watari knew he was definitely on the autism spectrum for years as a lot of kids in the orphanage made fun of him too. Mello didn't, but was forced to play with the others and he didn't really want to ignore Near, but he did. L was the only one in the orphanage who genuinely liked Near and thought he needed a friend and went to play with him.
That was when they found out they are similar in way and then became each other's 'brothers' even though they aren't related. Mello then realized that Near was partially lonely so he ended up being friends with him and dropped the rest of the kids at the orphanage, which lead them to thinking he was some loser. He didn't care and shrugged it off. Watari and Roger were talking to each other and L still wasn't home.
"What's going on?" Mello asked, eating his fish. He was sleeping peacefully last night that he didn't wake up as he is a heavy sleeper mostly.
"L is missing, Mello. In fact, nobody knows where he is." Near told him, finishing his breakfast.
"I know what happened. Yesterday, he asked Soichiro and Sachiko if he can propose to Light in his hand in marriage but he regretted it and started crying. I spoke to him and he was still upset and went to the elevator and went somewhere.
"What? Watari, is this true?" Light said, clearly in shock right now. The older gentleman nodded and Light looked down in sadness.
"I can't believe this..." He said, getting ready and went looking for L. He was really worried about him right now, even though he's been missing for a day. Light checked the park that he was in a while ago and he wasn't there. Light went to the bakery, nothing. Where on earth could he be? "Ryuzaki, I love you! Don't die on me, please!" Light shouted and several people looked at him strangely. He continued to look for L and swore he saw him, but it was someone dressed like him.
"I'm sorry, I thought you were my boyfriend." Light told the guy and moved on.
