"She... what?" I felt as if I could not catch my breath in my throat.
"Laswell, she was with Price and Gaz- they have her, but they are working to get her back." Soap says worried.
"We need to get there now, haul ass!" I say as I begin to throw on my military uniform again. Ghost looks me up and down, shaking his head. "What are you looking at?" I snap.
"We cannot leave Mexico, Laswell. You know as well as I do,"
"Yeah, but-"
"No buts. We have a mission here; we need to get those goddamn missiles off or deactivated on that oil rig. If we don't, the U.S. is gone and Hassan wins; you want that outcome, lieutenant?" Ghost speaks to me as if he was trying to explain something to a crying child.
I nod slowly; he had a strong point. I wouldn't admit it, but he did. I was thinking irrationally.
"You're here for a reason, Red. We need your help with these- especially cutting the cords on these missiles." Soap says.
I nod again, looking out through the door. "Is she okay." I say trying not to let my expression fall.
"Price and Gaz have located her in the truck they have her held captive in; chasing it down as we speak," Soap replies. "They even called in Farah for backup; she's an expert at what she does- remember that time in Iran?"
I nod, scoffing. "I just cannot lose her. And if I do, every motherfucker will be sorry once they see me." I push past the both of them, heading to the truck to prepare for the wettest mission we would have yet.
My chest felt tight, and my head was spinning. Those kinds of people never showed mercy; they were the kind to brutally slaughter you in their sleep for absolutely no reason. I knew Kate was smart and capable, but I also knew that she was the only person left on this earth that I could remotely come close to trusting.
"Laswell." I turn around to see Ghost, his skull pattern baklava on and now with his military uniform.
"No mask?" I ask.
"I don't always wear the heavy one." He says.
"What do you need." I ask as I sort through the guns and ammunition.
"I need you to just clear your head for the sake of this mission, yeah?" His British accent lowers.
I nod. "Yeah, got it; I'll focus- I'm focused." I breathe in, staring at the equipment in front of me.
"Good. Don't need you injured.. or worse." He states as he walks off.
Now my head was spinning more- why and how could someone be so cold and blank to.. that? Especially someone like Ghost.
"Hey, you okay hermana?" Alejandro comes up to me, a concerned look on his face.
I bite my lip. "Yeah, I will be. Once we deactivate these fucking missiles and get Kate is safe."
"I understand.." he says slowly. "I can't believe Valeria is... Sin Nombre." He shakes his head, scoffing.
"How long have you known her?" I lean against the car, wiping my handgun.
"Years. Worked a few missions with her years ago, great solider. Turned into.. this." I put a hand on Alejandro's soldier.
"I know betrayal when I see it. It's okay to feel that way," I offer a smile as I load my gear into the trunk, sliding into the seats. "Let's go!" I yell as I pat the top of the truck.
Soap and Ghost slide in next to me per usual, while Rudolfo and Alejandro take the front.
"GPS?" Ghost asked.
"Graves sent them to me; he will be on an active call with us to direct us on cutting those missiles." Alejandro responds.
"You cutting the wire?" Soap looks to me.
"Yep, done it about.. 40 times?" I say with a slight smile.
"Can you top that, LT #1?" Soap looks over to Ghost, who looks at me and rolls his eyes.
"I'm still better, Johnny." Ghost brags monotonously.
