If I was being completely honest, I didn't sleep that whole night. How could I? He left me with my head spinning and my heart racing, left with more questions than answers. All I could feel were his lips on mine still, and how his hands grabbed at my skin savagely. He was even cautious as to not grab the side that was obviously injured.

So what I did was pretend to sleep while he took watch. How was it that this man never required any sleep to function? His demeanor has always intrigued me- his actions, his words, his glare and gazes. It was as if I could perfectly read him based on the energy he output.

I did it. I was dumb, and I gave into my desires. But I didn't mind it- and I wasn't sure as to why. I wasn't sure as to what came over me. Sure, we all have crushes when we're younger. But the way I grabbed at her thin frame and explored her lips and mouth had me in a different reality. The passion, the way she smelled and how her body fit into mine like a ball and glove. She was small, and I was a giant. The size comparison made me want to just.. hold her there.

Ruby Laswell was more than the girl I thought her to be. I wanted more of her. But I refuse; everyone around me ends up getting hurt in the end.. or killed. And hell would have to freeze over before I let that happen.

I had to not care about her. But I couldn't. I look over my shoulder, seeing her hands tucked under her head in a bent motion- something she did a lot I've observed. The way she looked at peace made me want to think things, say things that I'd never say even to a highschool crush.

Ruby Laswell reminded me of myself in a lot of ways. She reminded me of an alternative self, someone who would ground me and leave me vulnerable. She left me vulnerable. She was good at it, and she knew it. I knew she was different the moment I met her; and even though I tried to dodge her so long, I just couldn't resist.

And I hated it.
