"Toni, stop moping around and get your ass out here," Josie's voice rang out from the other side of the bathroom door. Toni grimaced, looking at herself in the mirror one last time before unlocking the door and pushing it open.
"That's the problem," she tugged at the ends of the skin tight dress. "There's too much of my ass out here." Josie rolled her eyes and motioned with her finger for Toni to turn around. Sighing heavily, Toni spun in a circle and rolled her eyes.
"C'mon, don't be such a party pooper," the brown-skinned girl elbowed Toni in the side and raised an eyebrow. "Who knows, you might meet someone special tonight."
They were two weeks into the Cheer Competition Tour. Cheryl had willingly agreed to go, despite Toni's attempts to get the tour rescheduled. Cheryl argued that she was better, and that she needed something to do. Toni couldn't help but worry, though.
Hell, she was always worrying. If something were to happen to Cheryl again, she didn't know how she would handle it. Which is why at the beginning of the tour, Toni was always by the smaller girl's side.
Cheryl never brought up anything that had happened between them. Toni assumed she was over it. Then, the smaller girl began dropping hints that Toni was overcrowding her. Trying to be considerate, Toni backed off.
Now, it was as if the weeks they spent at the house had never happened. Cheryl never talked to Toni, unless it was something trivial like asking her to pass the salt. It wasn't that she was outright ignoring her, but their relationship definitely wasn't in the place Toni thought it would be in.
But she didn't want to annoy Cheryl. After Cheryl confessed to Valarie that Toni was being too protective of her, and Toni overheard, the brown- eyed girl had forced herself to stay out of Cheryl's way.
Moving on from whatever she had with Cheryl was harder than Toni thought it would be. Not only did she have romantic feelings for the girl, but she also felt responsible for her. It took all the willpower in her not to make sure Cheryl took her medicine every morning, or check the trash can to make sure Cheryl had eaten.
But the younger girl swore that she was better. It confused Toni, though. She hadn't expected Cheryl to hop from 0 to 100% after spending 4 weeks in rehab. But from what she'd seen, Cheryl was more energetic than ever. She just hoped it would last.
Josie had caught on to the lack of interaction between Toni and Cheryl, and knowing how attached Toni had been, she was now trying to help her cheer mate move on. Which is why she'd dragged Toni out of her bunk and made her try on a dress, telling her they were going clubbing.
"Go put on a pair of heels and do your makeup or something, we're leaving in fifteen minutes," Josie said, turning and walking away before Toni could argue. She groaned, circling their hotel room and sitting on the edge of the bed once Josie was gone.
She pulled out her phone, going immediately to Cheryl's twitter to see what she was up to. They had the weekend off, and most of the girls had gone out to do their own thing. She scrolled past a few pictures of Cheryl with fans, wondering how the girl seemed to have infinite amounts of energy.
That's how Toni and Cheryl differed. Toni could only handle so much social interaction at once. She was a private person, and needed her time by herself to be independent. Cheryl, on the other hand, thrived around groups of people. That had changed at the end of their last tour, but now she seemed to be gaining some of her old spirit back.
Sighing, Toni knew there was no way she could talk her way out of that night with Josie. She pushed herself off of the bed and disappeared into the bathroom to apply a small amount of makeup on her face.
