The next morning Rose woke up and slowly and carefully eased herself out of his body and slid out of bed and took a shower and got dressed in a floor length navy blue gown with multiple skirts under it. The gown was short sleeved. She slipped into a pair of navy blue flats. She slipped her sonic screwdriver into her gown. Then she slipped out of their room and walked down the ramp into the console room and sat down at the console. She sat there for a while. Suddenly she heard soft crying. Rose stood and followed the soft crying to its source. She slowly eased herself down onto the floor and moved the grate aside and dropped down into the hole and looked around. She said gently: "Hello? I want to help you." She heard a small voice say: "Who are you?" Rose said gently: "My name is Rose. Why don't you come over and we can talk? I'm not going to hurt you." Rose heard movement and a small girl came out from where she was hiding. Rose eased herself down onto the floor and said gently: "Hello sweetie. What's your name?" The girl said shyly: "My name is Lorelai. I ran away from the orphanage. They treated me and the other children badly. Can I stay?" Rose said gently: "Oh sweetie, the TARDIS sheltered you for a reason. She sheltered you so that you would find a family. I know that I just met you, but I love you just as though you are my own daughter. Come on." Rose stood and lifted Lorelai up and pulled herself out of the hole onto the floor and moved the grate back in place and stood with Lorelai. John said from up on the second floor landing: "Rose, who's that?" Lorelai tucked close to Rose. Rose walked up the ramp and said gently: "John, this little girl is Lorelai. I found her under the console. John, can we keep her? She ran away from the orphanage. She's scared." John smiled softly and said: "Sure. She seems to have attached herself to you. Why don't you go get her cleaned up?" Rose nodded and said: "I love her just as though she's our biological daughter." Then Rose walked down the hall into a bathroom and set Lorelai down and closed the door behind her and said: "Now, let's get you cleaned up." The TARDIS turned the water on for her. Rose helped Lorelai out of her clothes and into the tub and gently cleaned the girl up. Once the girl was all cleaned up, Rose lifted the girl up out of the tub and dried her off and dressed her in fresh clothes. Rose said gently: "Sweetie, are you hungry?" Lorelai nodded. Rose lifted Lorelai and settled her on her hip and walked out of the bathroom and walked to the galley and walked in and closed the door behind her and set Lorelai down and set to work fixing breakfast for Lorelai. She said gently: "Lorelai, whenever I can, I'm going to speak to the head Mistress of the orphanage and properly adopt you. What did she do to you there? Sweetie, I want to know so that I can help you." Lorelai said shyly: "You're really nice. Can I call you Mom?" Rose said gently: "Of course." Lorelai said shyly: "I was beaten and starved and burned." Rose spun around angry. She said: "You went through all that for how many years?" Lorelai said shyly: "Twelve years." Rose said gently: "Stay right here. I'll be right back." Then Rose walked over and opened the door and walked out of the galley and collided with John who said: "Whoa! What's got you all ticked off?" Rose said: "Our room. Now. I need to have a word with the head Mistress of the orphanage. She's about to find out why I'm called Bad Wolf. Take Lorelai and her breakfast with you. I don't want her hearing the conversation." John said: "Uh-oh. That sounds ominous. What did she do to our daughter?" Rose said: "Ask her yourself. I'm going to have a word with the head Mistress." John handed her phone to her and said: "I thought you might be needing this. Looks like I was right. I'll stay with our daughter while you speak to the head Mistress. Give her hell from me." Rose said: "She's about to find out why I'm called Bad Wolf." Then Rose walked furiously up the ramp into their room and closed the door behind her and dialed the orphanage number. The phone rang for a while. Rose sat down on the bed. Then a female voice answered the phone and said: "Hello?" Rose said: "Hi, I'm calling in regards to one of your girls from the orphanage. Her name is Lorelai. My husband and I would like to adopt her." The female voice said: "Great. One less mouth to feed." Rose was pissed off. She said: "Listen woman, there's a reason why I'm called Bad Wolf. You treat the children like they're expendable! You abuse the children! I heard about what you do to the children! Beating, Starving, Burning! I'm going to call the police and have them arrest you for abuse of a minor! Good bye!" Then Rose hung up and then called the police. The phone rang for a while. Then a female voice said: "9-1-1, what's your emergency?" Rose said: "Hi, my name is Rose Smith. The head Mistress of the orphanage has been abusing the children. Beating, Starving, Burning. My daughter told me that the head Mistress abused her. And I have the evidence to back up my claim." The female voice said: "We'll send police over to the orphanage straight away. Thank you for reporting this." Then Rose hung up and set her phone on the nightstand. Rose stood and opened the door and walked out of their room and walked down the ramp into the galley and walked in and closed the door behind her. John said: "How'd it go? Lorelai and I heard shouting." Rose said: "I reported the head Mistress for abuse of a minor. We'll have to go back to London to the orphanage. The police will want to speak to me and Lorelai. The head Mistress got a taste of Bad Wolf." John said: "Right. I'll go in the console room and take us back to London close to the orphanage. Lorelai just ate breakfast." Then John stood and walked out of the galley and walked down the hall into the console room. Meanwhile, Lorelai was starting to fall asleep. Rose lifted Lorelai up onto her hip and walked out of the galley and walked up the ramp into their room and set her on the bed and tucked her in. Lorelai said sleepily: "Will you stay with me until I go to sleep?" Rose sat down on the bed and said gently: "Of course. Would you like me to sing to you?" Lorelai nodded. Rose smiled softly and took her flats off and scooted up onto the bed and let Lorelai cuddle up close to her and started singing. Lorelai fell asleep quickly. Rose fell asleep as well. When John walked into their room, he found Mother and daughter fast asleep. John smiled softly and left. A few hours later Rose and Lorelai woke up. Rose slid out of bed and put her flats on and helped Lorelai out of bed. Lorelai said fearfully: "Mommy, will I have to talk to the police?" Rose said gently: "No. Not if you don't want to. I can do all the talking if you want." Lorelai said bravely: "I want to. Somebody needs to speak up on behalf of the other children. I want to be that somebody. I know that you and Dad are with me." Rose smiled softly and said gently: "My little Lorelai, you are so brave. I'm so proud of you. It takes courage to do that when you're small and have been through something so traumatic. Come on. Let's go see what your Dad is doing at the moment. If I know him, he's most likely in the console room." Lorelai snuggled up close to Rose. Rose lifted Lorelai up and settled her on her hip and walked out of their room and walked down the ramp into the console room and looked at Lorelai and said: "I was right. And it looks like he's talking on the phone with someone." Lorelai giggled. Rose smiled softly and walked up the ramp and walked over to John and sat down on the couch with Lorelai who crawled onto Rose's lap. After a while, John hung up. Rose smiled softly and said: "Who was that you were talking to?" John said: "Captain Jack Harkness. He's going to meet us at the orphanage. How's our girl?" Rose smiled softly and said: "She's going to speak to the police on behalf of the other children. She's so brave. I'm so proud of her." John said: "So am I. I'm already attached to her. She decided to sit on my lap while she ate her breakfast. I decided right then and there that I love her. She's just too cute." Rose smiled softly and held Lorelai. John walked over and sat down beside her on the couch and wrapped his arms around Mother and Daughter. Rose said: "While we're there, can we stop and see my Mom? I want my Mom to meet our daughter and tell her the news." John said: "Funny. Jack told me that your Mom was going to be at the orphanage as well. I don't know why. But it's convenient for us because we can just meet up with her at the orphanage." Then the console beeped. John pulled away and stood and walked over to the console and flipped several switches and pulled the lever back. John said: "I aimed for a secluded spot close to the orphanage where we can materialize. I don't want to cause people to freak out seeing the TARDIS materialize directly in front of the orphanage." Rose stood with Lorelai and settled her on her hip and said: "Good idea. Mom and Jack are used to seeing the TARDIS materialize and dematerialize. But other people are not. Smart thinking." They materialized in a secluded spot close to the orphanage. Rose walked over and opened the doors and walked out followed by John. Rose looked at John and said: "Ready?" John said: "Yep. You?" Rose said: "Yep. And so is Lorelai." Then they walked out of the secluded spot and walked down the sidewalk and crossed the street over to the orphanage. Captain Jack Harkness and Jackie met them in front of the orphanage. Jackie said: "Aww, who's this adorable girl with you two?" Rose smiled softly and looked at John and said: "Mom, meet our daughter. Her name is Lorelai. Also, I'm pregnant." Jackie said: "That's great. Hello Lorelai." Jack said: "Congrats you two. Rose, the police want to speak to you and Lorelai inside. Want Jackie and John and I to come with you two?" Rose said: "No. Lorelai, do you want Jackie and your Dad and Jack to come with us?" Lorelai pointed at John. Rose looked at John and said: "She wants her Dad to come too. Mom, you and Jack stay here." Then John, Rose, and Lorelai ducked under the police tape and walked into the orphanage. Lorelai was clinging to Rose. They were immediately surrounded by officers. Lorelai panicked. Rose handed Lorelai over to John who wrapped her legs around his waist and her arms around his neck and placed one hand on her back and the other hand on the back of her head. Rose said: "Officers, we'll answer your questions one at a time." The officers dispersed leaving the chief to speak to them. The chief spoke to Rose first. Rose answered the chief's questions honestly. Then the chief spoke to Lorelai. Lorelai told him the story of the abuse that went on at the orphanage. She even showed him the scars. They watched as the head Mistress was arrested and led out of the orphanage. The chief said: "Thank you, ladies. You did the right thing in reporting that woman. We'll have to figure out who will run the orphanage now." Just then Jackie came in and said: "I will. I'll run the orphanage now." The chief said: "Great. Thank you, Mrs. Tyler for stepping up and taking on this job." Jackie said: "Of course. I love children. Hopefully I can reverse some of the damage done by the previous head Mistress." Rose said: "I'm sure you will do fine, Mom." Then John, Rose, and Lorelai left. They walked out of the orphanage. Jack said: "Your Mom decided to run into the orphanage after you." Rose smiled and said: "It's a good thing she did. Her timing was impeccable. Mom volunteered to run the orphanage. Well, this family is off." John said: "Jack, you wanna tag along with us?" Jack shrugged and said: "Sure. Count me in. Where'd you park this time?" Rose smiled and said: "You'll just have to follow us to find out." John said: "You should have heard Rose earlier this morning. The former head Mistress got a taste of Bad Wolf. She was fairly shouting. Lorelai and I could hear her from clear in the galley. I'd forgotten that she could be that scary." Rose said: "To be fair, she treated the children like they're expendable. Which made me furious. It brought out the Bad Wolf part of me." Jack said: "Man, that's just sick. Children are precious. I can't believe that that monster did that." Rose said: "When Lorelai told me what they did to her, I spun around angry. I was furious." John said: "Rose can cause a small earthquake when she is very mad. I've seen it firsthand." Jack said: "Ah. Duly noted." Then they ducked under the police tape and crossed the road and walked up the sidewalk to the secluded spot where they'd materialized. They reached the secluded spot and walked into the TARDIS. Jack said: "So, where to now?" Rose smiled softly and looked at John and said: "Pompeii." John handed Lorelai over to Rose who walked up the ramp into their room and set her on the bed and tucked her in. The small girl was tuckered out and was fast asleep. Then Rose slipped out of their room and walked down the ramp into the console room and sat down on the couch. Jack closed the doors. John flipped several switches and set course for Pompeii and pushed the lever forward and dematerialized. Rose said: "John, just a suggestion, let's park outside of Pompeii and make the TARDIS invisible." John said: "Good idea." Jack said: "Want me to stay with Lorelai? If you guys happen to get separated from each other, Lorelai could get lost." Rose said: "Jack, Lorelai doesn't know you. She might not trust you. I had to coax her out of her hiding place when I first found her. She was hiding under the console room. Lorelai was scared to trust. She ran away from the orphanage because of the abuse. The TARDIS took her in and gave her shelter. It took her a while to warm up to John and I. When I first found her, the fear in her eyes almost broke my hearts." Both John and Jack were stunned by this revelation. Silence. Finally John said: "Wow. I didn't know it was that bad." Rose said: "Yes. She flinched when I lifted her up the first time. She's convinced that one of us is going to hurt her. She was abused for twelve years. Twelve years." John said: "But we would never do that." Rose said: "I know. But you have to remember that she's been on the run from the orphanage and was fending for herself until the TARDIS took her in and gave her shelter. It's only natural that she's skeptical of us grownups. Because she was abused. I saw that when I first found her. So no losing your temper around her. We want her to feel safe here. I'm going to watch my temper too. The first thing she asked me when we were in the galley was: "Can I call you Mom?" She's just starting to trust John and I. So, I think it's best if Lorelai comes with us." Just then they all heard a terrified scream. Rose sprinted up the ramp into their room and found Lorelai sitting up in bed crying. Rose pulled back the covers and lifted Lorelai from the bed and settled her on her hip and walked out of their room and walked down the ramp into the console room and sat down on the couch and let Lorelai crawl onto her lap and cuddle. Rose held her close to her and spoke soothingly to her. They materialized outside Pompeii. Jack walked into his room and lay down and fell asleep. Rose stood and lifted her up and settled her on her hip and walked over to the doors and opened the doors and walked out followed by John after he cloaked the TARDIS. Rose looked around. Suddenly the ground shook. Rose looked at John and said: "See if you can find out what's going on. I have a theory but I really hope I'm wrong. Lorelai and I will try to find Lupus Caecilius. I have a feeling we're in for a rocky surprise." John nodded and said: "Be careful, both of you. I love you both." Then John ran off. Then Rose and Lorelai walked into Pompeii. Rose said: "Let's see if I can remember where Lupus Caecilius lives." Lorelai said: "Or you could just ask for directions to his house. It's better than going around in circles. Mom, do you know why I was abused? I was abused the most because I'm a Time Lord. Like you and Dad." Rose smiled and said: "Lorelai, you are brilliant. Let's go ask for directions to his house." Then Rose and Lorelai walked into the marketplace. Rose walked over to one of the vendors and said in fluent Roman: "Hi, could you please point me in the direction of Lupus Caecilius's villa?" The vendor pointed her in the right direction. Rose said in fluent Roman: "Thank you and have a good day." Then Rose and Lorelai walked in the direction of Lupus Caecilius's villa. Lorelai said: "Okay, how do you know the Roman language? I can only do Gallifreyan and Italian and Spanish." Rose smiled softly and said: "You'll learn in time. I'll teach you the Roman language sometime." They reached Lupus Caecilius's villa and walked in just as the ground shook again. A marble bust toppled but Lorelai reached out with her hands and focused and the marble bust righted itself. Then a shield appeared around the marble bust. Rose looked at Lorelai and said: "How did you do that? Not even I can do that. And I'm pretty sure your Dad can't do that either." Lorelai lowered her hands and said: "It's a gift of mine. I've been able to do that for as long as I can remember. The shield will prevent the marble bust from toppling again. It acts like super glue. It locks the marble bust into place on its pedestal." Rose said: "That's amazing that you can do that. It must come in handy a lot." Just then Lupus Caecilius ran out of the villa. He said: "Thank you. I was too far away to grab that. Might I ask who you are?" Rose smiled and said: "My name is Rose Smith and this is my daughter Lorelai. My husband is here too. I was told that you've had some strange occurrences. Could you tell me more about that? I'm not a reporter. I'm actually from out of town. I specialize in the supernatural. So does my husband." Caecilius said slowly: "The stuff that goes on around here is beyond supernatural. Not even our people can explain it." Lorelai said: "They clearly haven't met Mom. If anyone can find out what these strange occurrences are, Mom can. Give her a bloody chance." Caecilius said: "Okay. Follow me." Then Rose and Lorelai followed Caecilius into the villa. As they walked, Caecilius told them what was happening. Rose and Lorelai looked at each other. Both had the same thought running through their heads. Rose set Lorelai down and said: "Sweetie, why don't you go have a look around? Check the hypocaust especially." Lorelai nodded and ran off. Caecilius said: "Don't you think it's a bit dangerous to let her go off by herself?" Rose said: "She's small, she's quick, she's smart, and can move around unnoticed which works to her advantage. Don't underestimate my daughter. Or you'll find that you were wrong to underestimate her." Caecilius said: "It's not that I don't believe in her. I'm just concerned that she could fall prey to the strange occurrences here. And I'd hate to be responsible for her being taken." Rose smiled and said: "Well, I appreciate your concern. But Lorelai can take care of herself." Caecilius said: "It would make me feel better if she had someone with her. I'll go see if my daughter is available. I'd feel better if Evelina was with her." Then Caecilius left. Rose sighed. Then Caecilius returned with a young woman. Caecilius said: "This is my daughter Evelina. Evelina, meet Rose Smith. Her and her daughter and husband are here to help us. I want you to stay with Rose's daughter." Evelina said: "Yes Father." Then Evelina left. Rose and Caecilius continued walking. They walked into the center room of the villa. Suddenly the ground shook again and the hypocaust came off and a creature came out. Evelina and Lorelai came running in. Evelina was carrying Lorelai. She set Lorelai down and said: "Everyone grab a bucket of water and throw it at the creature!" Then everyone grabbed a bucket and dunked them in the fountain and threw it at the creature. Lorelai, Evelina, and Rose was grabbed by women in red robes. Rose was knocked out. Evelina and Lorelai memorized the route. Evelina discreetly slipped her hand into Lorelai's hand and gently squeezed her hand and then pulled away. They were brought into a Temple. Lorelai and Evelina were tied up together. Evelina pulled the younger girl close to her as best as she could without drawing attention. Rose was tied to an alter unconscious.
