John chuckled at Lorelai's rambling. Rose set the fried chicken on a plate and walked over and set it in front of Lorelai. The two parents watched amusedly as Lorelai dig in. John looked at Rose and indicated the console room. Rose nodded and walked out of the galley and walked to the console room and walked in. Jack and Evelina were in there talking. Rose sat down on the couch. Evelina said concernedly: "how's Lorelai?" Rose smiled and said amusedly: "she's currently in the galley eating a plate of fried chicken. What I did worked. She'll live." Jack said confusedly: "wait, what happened?" Rose said: "Lorelai was sick with a case of Sepsis. She was in the second stage. Fortunately I was able to save her. I drew on past experience with Sepsis." Just then John came in. He said: "she'll be busy for a while. We need to talk about it. Rose, do you know how Lorelai came down with Sepsis in the first place?" Rose shifted and said slowly: "I have a theory. It ties in to her time at the orphanage." John said: "tell us." Rose sighed and said slowly: "when she first came to us, she was malnourished. She'd been starved at the orphanage. Her time on the streets wasn't any better. Her immune system was weakened from the start when she first came to us. So she could have had it a long time and not known. It could have been a delayed case." John said: "explain." Rose said: "well, it could be a mutant case. Meaning she could have had it a long time and not known or show any symptoms. But the sickness could have also been slowed down by her Time Lord DNA. However, I find that unlikely." John said: "why?" Rose said: "because her DNA is still growing and changing. It's not like an adult Time Lord. She'll regenerate but hers won't be like ours. I mixed my own DNA with hers to save her." John said: "that was a pretty risky thing to do in your condition." Rose looked at John and said: "John, do me a favor and shut up. I knew that I was taking a risk. I knew what I was doing." Jack and Evelina looked at each other and decided to leave the console room. They both left the console room. Evelina said: "I have a feeling they're going to start fighting in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1." Just then they heard yelling. Jack said: "and right on cue. Come on. Let's go get Lorelai out of earshot of John and Rose. If they start using colorful metaphors, I don't particularly want her to hear them." Evelina said:"good idea." Jack said: "yeah." Then they detoured and walked into the galley. Evelina placed her hand on Lorelai's shoulder. Lorelai looked up. Evelina said: "I need you to grab your food and follow us." Lorelai grabbed her food and stood and followed Jack and Evelina. They walked to the library and walked into the library and closed the door behind them. Lorelai said: "why are we in here?" Jack and Evelina looked at each other. How to explain this without making her freak out? Evelina sighed and said gently: "Lorelai, we need you to sit down for this. It's really important." Lorelai set her food down and sat down on the couch. Jack and Evelina sat down on either side of her. Evelina said gently: "Lorelai, your Mom risked her life to save yours. You were very sick with an illness known as Sepsis. None of us knew how it affects Time Lords. Your Mom took a risk and mixed her DNA with yours to save you. And your Dad is kinda mad about it. Jack and I thought it would be best to get you out of earshot of your parents for a while." Lorelai said: "are Mommy and Daddy fighting because of me?" Evelina said: "no! They're fighting because of what your Mom did to save your life." Jack said: "exactly." Meanwhile in the console room. John said: "it was dangerous to do what you did! You could have died! Hell, you could have even put the baby at risk! Were you even thinking about the danger?!" Rose said: "I knew what I was doing! I knew that it was dangerous! I knew that I was taking a risk! I was damn well aware of the danger! But you know what?! I did it anyways because I love our daughter! And sometimes love means taking a risk! Our daughter would have died if I didn't do what I did! I wasn't about to stand by and watch our daughter die! I knew that I could have died! I knew the risk I was taking! And if you don't want me around, then drop me off at my Mom's house!" Then she stormed out of the console room and walked into her old room and started packing a suitcase and then walked over to their room and walked in and packed her clothes and closed the suitcase and sat down on the bed and broke down and cried. She lay down and stared at the ceiling. Then she rolled over on her side. A few minutes later, she heard footsteps approaching. Then she felt the bed dip. John said quietly: "I'm sorry. I was wrong to yell at you. I know that you were only doing what you had to do to save our daughter. I love you. And I don't want you to go." Rose said: "yeah well, I already packed. How can I stay here if you're going to yell at me for doing my job as a Doctor? You need to sort things out. Until you sort things out, I think I should go back to my Mom's house." John sighed and said quietly: "very well. If you feel that way, then I will take you home." Then John stood and walked out of their room and walked down the ramp into the console room and set course for Jackie Tyler's house and flipped several switches and pushed the lever forward and dematerialized and sat down in the pilot's seat and cried. Lorelai came in a few minutes later and found John crying. She walked over and jumped up and pulled herself up beside him and scooted over and tucked into his side and said: "Daddy? Why are you crying?" John dried his eyes and said: "your Mom is leaving us for a while. We had a fight and she felt that she should leave for a while." Lorelai said: "No! I don't want her to leave." John said quietly: "neither do I, sweetheart. I tried to talk her out of it." Lorelai said: "let me try. Delay arrival!" Then she hopped down and ran up the ramp into their room and jumped up onto the bed and crawled over to Rose and said pleadingly: "Mommy, please don't leave us. I love you. Daddy's in the console room crying. He doesn't want you to leave and neither do I. Please, please don't leave us. Things won't be the same around here if you're gone. Please don't leave us." Rose rolled over to face Lorelai and said: "oh sweetie, I can't stay here if I can't do my job as a Doctor without getting yelled at. I love you too. But it wouldn't be right to stay here and tear the family apart and put you in the middle of the fighting." Lorelai said firmly: "No. What you're doing is running from your problems. And you know what? That's not putting the family first. That's the path of a coward. Think about that." Then she hopped down and ran out of their room and ran down the ramp into the console room and jumped up onto the pilot's seat beside John and said: "don't land yet." John looked at her and said curiously: "what did you do?" Lorelai said: "you'll see." John raised an eyebrow. Lorelai said: "okay. I told her the truth and told her to think about it." John said: "do you think it'll work?" Lorelai said: "I hope so. I hope I managed to get through to her. Now all we can do is wait." John wrapped an arm around Lorelai and held her close to him and said: "you look exhausted." Lorelai laid her head on his shoulder and said: "to be fair, I am just getting over being sick." John said: "point taken." Lorelai didn't say anything. She was fast asleep. John looked down and picked her up and set her on his lap and grabbed his coat and wrapped it around her like a blanket. A few minutes later, Rose came out of their room. She walked down the ramp into the console room and said: "I'm not leaving. Our daughter is quite the firecracker. She didn't back down." John smiled and said: "I'm glad you're not leaving. I really am sorry for yelling at you. Also, our daughter is currently using my chest as a pillow. She fell asleep a few minutes ago. Should I take her to her room?" Rose smiled and said: "no. Let her stay where she is. It took her a while to warm up to me. She's cuddling with you without a second thought. She feels safe in your arms. That's why she gravitated towards you so quickly. Just let her stay where she is. It's cute seeing you two like that." John said: "I guess I'll have to start spending more time with her. I don't want to move her anyways." Rose smirked and said: "I have a feeling that Jack and Evelina are going to be spending quite a bit of time together." John smirked and said: "you noticed it too?" Rose smirked and said: "kinda hard not to notice when you're in the same room with them." John smirked and said: "and here I thought I was the only one who noticed that." Rose smirked and said: "I noticed it long before you did. I caught them kissing once. I just let them think they were alone. I cloaked myself. They have no idea that I know about them. And I fully plan to keep it that way until they decide to tell us that they're together." John smirked and said: "now that's what I call devious. I'll follow your lead. In the meantime, let's head for Lothal." John smiled and said: "I would, but I currently have my hands full. Literally. Our daughter isn't letting go of me anytime soon. But hey, I'm not complaining. I actually like this. It's adorable seeing her all cuddled up with me. Don't be surprised if she ends up in our bed with us." Rose smiled and said: "I wouldn't be surprised at all. She's a little cuddle bug apparently. Especially with you. Which I find rather amusing."
