Rose squared her shoulders and said firmly: "fine. I know what to do. John, stay here with our daughter. Evelina, you're with me." John and Evelina nodded. Rose stood and John took over. Then Rose and Evelina ran to the medbay. They ran into the medbay. Evelina said: "how did you know what Lorelai had?" Rose said: "I worked at a hospital on Gallifrey before it was destroyed. And then when I came down to earth, I found a job at a hospital. I had a lot of Sepsis cases come in. Most of them lived because their families got them to the hospital quickly. Some of them died. This isn't the first Sepsis case I've dealt with." Evelina said: "I can tell. Judging by the way you were quick to diagnose it. I'm impressed." Whilst they were talking, Rose was grabbing supplies and putting them in a basket. She moved about with the speed of familiarity. After a while she said firmly: "there. Got everything I need." Evelina said: "will it be enough to save her?" Rose said firmly: "I know what I'm doing." Then Rose and Evelina hurried back to Lorelai's room. They ran into Lorelai's room. John turned around. He looked serious and worried. Rose knew that Lorelai must have gotten worse while they were gone. Rose took a deep breath and walked over to the bed. John stood and moved. Lorelai looked at John and said weakly: "Daddy, will you hold my hand?" John walked around the bed and sat down and took her hand in his and held her hand. He was sitting beside her head. She said: "now all we can do is wait and watch her vitals. I'm hooking her to the monitor now. I really hope this works." John said: "me too." And so the two parents stayed up. John looked at Rose and said: "Rose, why don't you get some rest? We'll take shifts watching our daughter. But right now, you should get some rest. You've been up for some time working hard to save our daughter's life. I don't want you to overwork yourself and end up passing out." Rose nodded and said: "wake me when you're ready to switch. I'll sleep on the couch over there. I don't want to be more than three steps away from our daughter." John chuckled and said: "I understand the feeling. Go on ahead. I'll wake you when it's time to change shifts." Rose stood and walked over and lay down on the couch and fell asleep immediately. John kept watch until 12:00. Then he carefully eased away from Lorelai and stood and walked over and woke Rose. Rose woke up. She was wide awake. Rose stood and walked over to the bed and sat down on the bed and took up watching Lorelai. John lay down on the couch and fell asleep immediately. Rose took Lorelai's hand in hers and idly stroked her hand and spoke to her quietly. She hoped that hearing her voice would help Lorelai. It was around 9:00 PM when Lorelai woke up. She said hoarsely: "Mommy?" Rose looked down and smiled softly and said gently: "hey baby girl. How are you feeling?" Lorelai said hoarsely: "hungry. Kinda craving fried chicken." Rose laughed and said amusedly: "yep! Definitely worked." John stirred and woke up, roused by the noise. He sat up and said: "what's going on?" Rose looked at him and said: "it worked. Our daughter is going to live. She's hungry for fried chicken." John was wide awake now. He stood and walked over and sat down on the other side of the bed and gently stroked her hair out of her face and said relieved: "thank goodness." Rose said: "I believe our daughter needs some food." Then John easily scooped Lorelai up. Rose stood. Then they walked out. John was carrying Lorelai bridal style. They walked into the galley. John set Lorelai down at the table. Rose whipped up some fried chicken. Lorelai was rambling.
