Y/N POV:
I was shaking when we entered the station. Egon wrapped his arm around my shoulders as we walked down the hall for questioning. I wasn't just scared of being at the station, but also confused. Spengler isn't big on physical touch, so why does he have his arm around me? We spent the night in the cell. A few inmates began barking and whistling at me, "Hey, beauty! Why don't you come over here?"
Egon stayed by my side protectively. Glaring at them. I didn't sleep at all, and Egon, bless his heart, stayed up with me. When morning came, we both had bags under our eyes. Peter and Ray would wake up every few hours to check on us.
After the sun came up, a cop opens the cell door, "Alright, Ghostbusters! It's time!" Peter groaned and we stood up. Again, Egon wrapped his arms around my shoulders and we walked out to the cop car. The same cop that arrested us opened the passenger door and glimpsed at me, "Ma'am." I walked up to him and sat in the front seat with the boys in the back. We were escorted to the courthouse and sat down at the table. I sat between Egon and Peter and saw Winston Zeddemore walk up to us as the judge entered.
"Before we begin this trial, I want to make one thing very clear. The law does not recognize the existence of ghosts. I don't believe in them either. I don't wanna hear a lot of malarkey about goblins and spooks and demons. We're gonna stick to the facts in this case and leave the ghost stories to the kiddies, understood?" The Judge barked.
"Wow. Sounds like a pretty open-minded guy." Winston mentions staring at us, "And who is the lady?"
"Yeah, they call him The Hammer. And this is Y/N." Egon answers. Winston eyes me for a moment, "Ma'am. Well, I will be outside. Good luck." Once Winston left, Ray looks at us, "What can we do? It's all in the hands of our lawyer now." I peeked up to see Louis Tully, with lots of books, enter the room and lean over the desk next to Ray.
"I think you guys are making a big mistake. I mostly do tax laws and probate stuff occasionally. I got my law degree at night school!"
"Well, that's fine, Louis. We got arrested at night." Ray retorts putting his head on the desk. I shifted in my seat, feeling even more uncomfortable. Egon glances at me for a moment, then takes my hand, "It will be fine, Y/N. Just breathe." He whispered in my ear.
"How are you so calm about this?!" I whispered back. I gaze up and locked my e/c eyes with his dark brown. I felt my face flush and quickly looked away. "Y/N... he is a fictional person. Probably around six or seven years older than you." I ponder to myself, "He's probably in his early thirties and you're y/a (your age)." I hear Egon chuckle quietly. In my peripheral vision, I see him smiling, his hand still holding mine. I glance up to see Hardemeyer stride up to the table to Peter, "Violating a judicial restraining order, willful destruction of public property, fraud, malicious mischief- see you in a couple of years at your first parole hearing."
"You'll never take us alive!" Peter growls. Hardemeyer walks away as the Judge bangs down his gavel, "All right, all right, let's get on with it."
Louis promenades up to the front and starts up his opening remarks, "Your Honor, ladies, and gentlemen of the- of the audience. I don't think it's fair to call my clients frauds! Okay, so the blackout was a big problem for everybody, okay? I was stuck in an elevator for two hours, and I had to make the whole time. But I don't blame them! Because one time, I turned into a dog, and they helped me. Thank you." Louis steps back to the table and sits down. I watched the Judge stare at us with his mouth open, unsure of what Louis declared.
Egon leans over Ray to Louis, "Very good, Louis. Short but pointless." I sucked in a shaky breath and sunk lower in my seat, "Oh..."
The Prosecutor begins speaking to the Con Ed Supervisor, "Mr. Fianella, please look at Exhibits A through F on the table over here. Do you recognize this equipment?" She points to the slime and devices the Ghostbusters had in their possession.
