It is the year 1989. The streets of New York were busy and filled with anger. Citizens are yelling at each other for no apparent reason. It had been five years since that anomalous vision, and it seemed not to want to leave Egon Spengler alone. He has memorized the dream by heart but uses his analyses as a distraction. Finally, the door to the University lab opens, and a familiar woman enters. Dana Barrett. A smile faintly grazes across Egon's face, "Hello, Dana."
"Hi, Egon. Could I talk to you about something?"
With a nod, Egon waves Dana over as she describes her issue, "... went right out in the middle of traffic, and I started really running after it. And then it just suddenly stopped, right in the middle of the street." She finished. Egon hums, "Did anyone else see this happen?" Dana nodded her head, "Well, sure, hundreds of people. Egon, I didn't imagine this." She watches him move towards a glass window, answering, "I'm not saying you did. It's just in science we always look for the simplest explanation."
Dana steps next to him as his assistant calls out, "We're ready, Dr. Spengler." Egon grabs a device, "Good. We'll start with the negative calibration." Then, filled with curiosity, Dana notices a couple arguing on the other side, "What are you working on, Egon?" Spengler switches it on and watches the meter spike up and down, "I'm trying to determine whether human emotions actually affect the physical environment. It's a theory Ray and I had when we were still Ghostbusters."
"Can they see us?"
Adjusting the gadget, Egon watches the spikes rise faster, "No. They think they're here for marriage counseling. We've kept them waiting for two and a half hours, and we've been gradually increasing the temperature in the room." He checks the heat sensor and nods, "It's up to ninety-five degrees at the moment." Egon glances at Dana, "Now my assistant is going to enter and ask if they'd mind waiting another half-hour." Finally, they watch a man walk into the room and speak to them.
The couple explodes at the assistant and then at each other. "Oh, good. Very good. Very, very nice." Egon mutters as the spikes rise. Dana turns to Egon, "So, Egon, what do you think?" Egon grins at the device, "Excellent. Just excellent." He turns to his assistant, "We'll do the happiness index next."
Dana crosses her arms at him, "I mean, about the carriage." Egon faces Dana, "Well, I'd like to bring Ray in on this if you don't mind."
"Sure! Whatever you think... but not Venkman."
"Oh, no."
"Do you ever see him?" She questions, not noticing Egon watching with a frown, "Occasionally."
"How is he these days?" Egon turns his head away and adjusts an apparatus next to him, "Peter? Oh, he was borderline for a while. Then he crossed the border."
"Does he ever mention me?" Dana wondered. Egon sighs, "No." He runs a meter over her. They move to another two-way mirror, watching a lovely little girl playing with toys. Feeling slightly disappointed, Dana sighs, "Well, we didn't part on very good terms, and we sort of lost track of each other after I got married."
"We're ready for the affection test."
"Good. Send in the puppy, please." Egon uttered.
Dana continued disappointedly, "I thought of getting in touch with him after my marriage ended, but- aw. Isn't that sweet?" They watch as another assistant enters the playroom with a Cocker Spaniel puppy. Egon monitors the girl as she jumps for joy and hugs the little dog. Finally, Dana faces Egon, "Anyway, I appreciate you're doing this, Egon." She hands him her card, "Here's my phone number- you'll call me?"
Egon takes the card, "Certainly."
"Egon, I'd rather you didn't mention any of this to Peter if you don't mind."
