— ACT ONE OF THREE —
THE BEGINNING OF THE END

chapter eleven | the final countdown

DARYL threw the bottle of tequila at the door Jenner had closed down a mere ten minutes ago.

"Open this damn door!"

Him, Shane, Rick, and T-Dog were constantly throwing items at the steel door. They did anything they could to try to get it open with what little time was left.

Sadie sat in a computer chair. She spun around in slow circles, counting down the minutes until her death. Her mind roamed at the possibility of giving up. To just let go of her life and have it be over in a millisecond of time.

However, she was no coward. She wouldn't give up this easy.

"It's a short, brutal life and an agonizing death–" Jenner began to say as Rick approached them. He moved to stop Sadie from spinning her chair.

"Are you going to be okay?" He asked her, keeping his voice down.

She rolled her eyes, "I'll be fine. I just want to get the hell out here."

"You–You lost someone, who?" Jenner turned to face Sadie and Rick.

She gulped, "My fiancé."

"Your fiancé and your sister Amy. . ." Jenner whispered, "You know what this does. You've seen it. Is that really what you want for yourself?" He turned to Rick, "Do you want this for your son?"

Rick left Sadie to come face to face with Edwin. "I don't want this!" He shouted.

Rick sighed in defeat as Jenner turned his chair back around. He then turned to Shane, "Can't make a dent."

"Maybe if Jenner would just open the fucking door." Sadie grumbled, earning a look from Rick and Shane both.

"Those doors are designed to withstand a rocket launcher." Jenner said, matter-of-factly.

"Well, your head ain't!" Daryl suddenly approached Jenner, an axe in hand. Sadie immediately stood up and stood in front of Jenner.

It took multiple men to fight him off, Sadie included. Sadie fixed her disheveled shirt, going to yell at her brother for being so rash.

"You do want this," Jenner pleaded, causing them all to stop in their tracks, "Last night, you said you knew it was just a matter of time before everybody you loved was dead."

"Rick?" Sadie asked, her eyes widened. He turned to face her, but then turned back to the doctor.

"You really said that?" Lori asked, stunned herself by her ex.

"After all your big talk?" Shane scoffed.

"Apparently none of this means shit to you." Sadie chimed in.

Rick turned back to Sadie. "I had to keep hope alive, didn't I?"

"There is no hope. There never was!" Jenner laughed, a shit-eating grin written on his face.
