— ACT TWO OF THREE —
SHE LOVES ME, SHE LOVES ME NOTchapter fourteen | shot to the heart

RICK looked between Sadie and Daryl. They were arguing, per usual. He noticed that the Dixon siblings did that a lot. Argued until the other gave him. It was one of the few similarities they shared. Their attitude, demeanor. . . Their looks couldn't be any more different. Daryl had blue eyes, Sadie had brown. Daryl had pin straight hair while Sadie sported a curly mess that usually sat in a bun on top of her head.
"What if one of them came with us?" Rick offered. "We'll need a tracker, and they both know how."
"Not a bad idea. Daryl will lead them back to the highway, move some more cars around so we can do this thing the right way." Shane nodded as he spoke, agreeing.
Although, at this point, he'd agree with anything Rick said just to get on his good side once more.
"God, you're so fucking–"
"What? I'm so what?!" Daryl spat.
"Annoying. You're so annoying! Jesus, Darlene, you're startin' to act more and more like dear old Dad everyday." Sadie joked with a smirk, knowing the nickname bothered him.
Daryl rolled his eyes, "Fine. Then just leave. You don't like how I'm actin', then fuckin' leave."
"Piece of shit." She muttered, balling up her fist in anger.
With that, Sadie turned on her heel to walk back to the rest of the group. Daryl followed in suit, waiting to know the next move.
"Ya'll gonna follow the creek bed back, okay? Daryl, you're in charge. Rick, Sadie, and me are just gonna hang back."
"Just to search the area for another hour, make sure we didn't miss anything." Rick confirmed.
Sadie scoffed, "Thanks for asking guys."
"You're splittin' us up? You sure?" Daryl asked.
Rick nodded, "Yeah, we'll catch up to you."
"I want to stay too." Carl announced rather suddenly, "I'm her friend."
The group grew quiet until Lori suddenly spoke up, approving of the young boy's request.

SADIE walked through the forest with her head low and knife drawn. Carl walked beside her, asking questions of her life before.
"Did you ever go to church?" He asked her, referencing the white building they had just come from.
"No." She responded quickly.
"We'd go with Grandma sometimes, and my mom made me go with her on Easter and Christmas. My dad was always working– What about real breakfast? Do you miss it?"
Sadie looked down at the boy and smiled a bit, "Honestly? I miss real dinner. What I'd give for a juicy burger right about now."
