*Whoosh*

I could feel the cold air hitting my face as we navigated through the huge trees with ease.
I was shocked by their instincts and inhumane speed.

Alan's white furs were surprising warm and soft. I looked back to see Micah, speeding up right behind us.

The forest was dark and the gibbous moon did little in illuminating our path. But that didn't stop Alan and Micah. They easily ran among the trees, dodging obstacles with ease and precision.

Wow, this feeling... Its so amazing! I hope my powers turn out to be this awesome as well!

I don't know how much time has passed, a few minutes to be precise, until Alan started slowing down his pace and eventually came to a stop.
I scanned my surroundings to find that we were in the middle of a clearing in the forest. I looked towards my side to see Micah, trying to get a twig out of his furs.

I slowly found my footing and came down Alan's back. His size was bigger than that of Micah's, and had that aura of a leader. He shook his furs, getting rid of the unwanted leaves in them.

I saw them nodding at each other. I didn't know what they were talking about until Alan waltzed past me. He took a look at something in the ground and the next moment he gave a long, low pitched howl.

I was mesmerized by his actions. I had always lived in the city and this was the first time I ever heard a wolf's howl. I stood there as if in a trance until the ground below me started vibrating like crazy.

The vibrations increased till it felt like a huge earthquake. I lost my footing, about to fall, but thankfully Micah, who was standing right at my side supported me with his body. I held onto his furs, praying that the earthquake stops until I saw a huge tree like being come out of the ground, right in the middle of the clearing.

I was left with awe. I don't know what it is. The tree like being rose in height until to a point where I had to strain my neck to look at it. I could see Alan backing away to give it space, coming to a stop right in front of me.

Shock filled me the next minute when I saw what seemed like a face coming out from the middle of its huge bark. The quakes stopped as soon as the tree completed its formation.

My mouth was hanging open at this point.

What a sight! Oh. My. God!!

The tree face opened its eyes and roamed its dark eyes on Micah and mine's comparatively little figures, until its eyes landed on Alan. Surprise and respect filled its features, followed by a bow like gesture which it did with the help of its green lush branches.

I took a look at Alan...

This guy.. He's so mysterious and full of power. Even a being thrice his size is bowing down at him!

The next moment, I could hear an elderly voice coming out from the huge tree.

"My Lord! For what do I owe the pleasure of your presence?!"

Alan took a look at me, his voice echoed in my head..

"Come with me."

I gave a quiet nod and walked a few steps forward, to stand at his side.

"Oh Wise One! We have found the one, for whom we had been looking for generations. We come to seek your guidance."

I don't know how he was doing it. He was not talking to me but his voice was loud and clear in my head. I'm even sure that Micah, too, heard him clearly.

The Wise One acknowledged Alan's words and turned his eyes to look at me once again. I could see its branches ruffling at its side, unaffected by the presence of the wind, until one of its branches came directly towards me.

I stood there, transfixed, as the lush branch stopped right in front of me, urging me to put my hand on top of it.
I didn't know what to do.

I don't trust this creature at all. What if I give my hand and it tears me apart the next minute!

I was in a dilemma, staring at the outstretched branch in front of me. I turned towards Alan and looked him in the eyes. His small nod of affirmation was the only thing I needed, before taking a deep breath and putting my right hand on top of the branch.

"Yes... Yes! She is the one! I can feel the greatest power flowing through her veins. But I can see something else too; fear.. of failure but also an urge to protect the ones that need her."

I was shocked by the mention of my powers. I know till now that they exist but I never knew it was something so strong. I felt guilty not being able to use them.
I could hear it speak again,

"I know my child, you have lots of things to learn and process. You are still a sapling now, ready to grow into a beautiful tree one day.
Don't ever lose hope, child. Every little thing requires patience and dedication. You will encounter many unusual events in your upcoming life; some good and some bad, horrible even...but you must stay strong my dear 'cause the one you are destined to be with will always be by your side."

I was moved by its words. I felt so grateful, at least now I have a hope of succeeding in my quest.

"Thank you O Wise One. Your words gave me another reason to be strong. I'll be forever grateful to you."

I could see a smile lifting up its features.

"Oh dear, 'The Wise One' is just a nickname they gave me. My real name is Augustus Smith. I would like you to call me that child."

I chuckled hearing his request. I could see Alan smile at me from the corner of my eyes.

"Okay Mr. Smith. Thank you for your service!"

He retreated his branch back to where it belonged and took a good look at all of us, as if he's seeing us for one last time before saying goodbye.

"Remember my child, you must learn to harness your powers before its too late. Here, take this, it will help you in your journey and guide you throughout your quest."

With that, he extended his branch to me once again, revealing what seemed like an ancient ferronnière (necklace like headpiece) adorned with a single blue ruby.

I took it delicately, marveling at its out of this realm beauty. I mouthed a small thank you, before turning the headpiece in my hands and placing it on my head, the ruby dangling on my forehead.

I turned my head, ready to show the beautiful piece to Alan, only to see him intently looking back at me, with a smile on his face. He looked beautiful. He was in his wolf form, but I so wished he was not. I wanted to see the smile on his human face.

I smiled back at him, only to see him shying away the next minute, pretending to inspect something in the ground.

Awww... This guy can be shy too, lol

I felt the vibrations again as Mr. Smith went back into his hiding place, under the ground.
I turned towards the way we came, only to find Micah sitting like a loyal dog, wagging his tail.

I practically face palmed myself. All this serious talk and look at this guy, sitting there as if he saw an exciting circus at the last minute!
I could hear Alan's low growling beside me, and to my surprise, Micah instantly jumped back to regain his composure.

"Let's go, Kiara. Get on my back."

I quickly jumped on Alan's back and got the pleasure of hugging his soft furs again. I saw Micah, coming and standing beside him, a few steps back, giving his Alpha the authority.

"Hold on tight!"

I could hear his voice once again before he took off into the dark thicket of the forest, the words of 'The Wise One' echoing in my head...

Is this the start of Kiara's unknown quest?

Will she be able to harness her powers in time??

Keep reading to find out...
