"You used to live this deep in the forest?" Alastair looked around at the untouched scenery.
It was rare for humans to leave such beauty alone. Especially if it wasn't owned by anyone. Yet, it stood right in front of him. He then glanced to the other, watching as his body relaxed into the seat. It seemed that this forest was his home. He'll have to protect it.
"We're here." Christine's voice sounded tight with emotion; her soft green eyes completely focused on the large wooden cottage in front of them.
Quickly, the family of four got out of the car and looked more at the cabin. It was very beautiful, even if a little weathered and dark. A quiet click brought the young Alpha's eyes towards his future mate. His eyes widened a little when he saw that the other had taken off his mask. Of course, it didn't stay off for long, quickly being put back when they heard Mimi's truck. Yes, the old woman drove a truck.
"I'm surprised you didn't get lost!" The greyed woman laughed merrily before hopping down. She then tossed the keys to her unrelated grandson. "You and your father should look around! I want to chat with my little Grandchildren." She teased, winking suggestively at the pair.
"Mimi!" Christine hissed, her face flushing.
The old woman laughed with a playful wave of her hand. She then waddled over to the truck, calling for her grandchildren to help her. Christine gave them an apologetic smile before she and her nephew hurried off to help her. The two men took that as a chance to do as the old woman suggested. Besides, they were curious about the house.
Inside was a bit stuffy, the air being thick and a bit stale, but that was probably from not being opened and used all the time. Walking further in, the two quickly found a large, opened kitchen and across from that was a simple living room with a five-seating couch and three bookshelves full of old board games and books. Moving further down the house, they found a full bathroom with an ocean theme and a spare bedroom. Moving up the stairs, they found three more doors. The door closest to the stairs led to another bathroom, also ocean themed, but there were old toddler supplies to help a child take care of themselves. A door just a little way down appeared to be a child's room if the cartoon styled forest wallpaper and toys were anything to go by. The last was the master bedroom with a surprise that held the two's attention. A family portrait of the last ones to own the cabin.
Standing to the right was a stunning woman with a round face and a fit body that she showed off in an athletic sports bra. Her hair flowed down to her hips in a wave of fiery red curls that just brought out her ripe-peach colored skin. On her left was a man that had a strong face and a muscular body that he showed off in only a loose muscle-tank. His chair was pulled back into a long ponytail, hanging limply near his neck in a brick-red color. They both were smiling and holding up a messy child with crazy red-hair and the largest smiles on his cute face. But that wasn't what drew the two in. No, it was their eyes. The mother's eyes were a sharp and bright emerald color, the father's were a near gold color with the young boy's eyes seemingly becoming a golden-green hazel color. They looked like werewolf eyes.
"That was taken just two months before they died." An elderly voice called behind the two, causing them to take more defensive positions.
Mimi chuckled at that, looking more amused than alarmed. Her eyes were wide now, letting them see where the family got their eyes from.
"You know, when the two met they believed they were cousins. I thought so too as me and my husband were what you'd call Swingers." She sighed happily with a laugh. "Sometimes we'd have children with those people. I do try my best to keep in contact with our grandchildren, but some are given up or taken away."
"I take they weren't?" James shifted a little, glancing between the portrait and back to the old woman.
"Nope. We only shared one common mutation." She tapped under her eyes for effect. "Knowing that, the two became nearly inseparable. It was wonderful to see. They cared and loved each other so deeply and so much... It reminded me of my time with my husband." She closed her eyes, nodding at the sweet memories. "Those two were protective of Chrissy. She was Josy's little sister at the time. They tried their best to get her away from that bastard, we never liked him. Found him wrong for her, but there was only so much we could do without pushing her away." A saddened look took over her face.
Alastair looked to the painting, looking at Ryker's childish and happy face. That was what he looked like. Those were his eyes.
"Why does he hide his eyes? They're so beautiful." He turned back to the woman who had more knowledge on their mates than them.
She shook her head with a scowl.
"The bastard probably tortured him into hating them. He always found our eyes terrifying and hideous." She scoffed, narrowing her eyes on the floor. "He must've thought that since he cut Chrissy off from us and her only protectors were dead, that he could impose his will not only on her, but him too."
The room went quiet, the old woman constantly adjusting her grip as to not accidentally destroy the carefully crafted cane. Just the thought of what he could've done to her children made her want to kill him even more. It didn't matter if she went to jail or not, she was an old woman anyway.
"I'll make him want to show his eyes." Alastair broke the silence. "I want to see his eyes and hear his voice when he speaks."
"I want Christine to be happy and free again." James nodded his head firmly to the old woman.
She gave them a side-eye before softly smiling.
"I'll hold you both to that." She turned her back to them, beginning to walk back downstairs. "Now then. That boy needs a haircut. They both need one!" This time, her words carried throughout the house.
"Mimi! We don't need a haircut!" Christine's voice shouted up the stairs with a loud grunt of agreement.
"Nonsense! You can barely work with that hair! Very unprofessional!" The woman huffed with a smile on her lips. She could see the pain that bastard had caused, but she could also see that the two Griffons were helping them get their confidence back.
