Hanta should have known things were to go downhill the moment they allied with a Villain.

But that had only been the first mistake. In order of realisation, not chronologically, that is.

Then it had been the abrupt decision to trust this new guy, who was in fact working for Blue Crossed, yet didn't want to be, yet still was... Hanta was still getting his head around it. They'd mentioned something about being a mole for their little ragtag group of renegades. Neito had confided in him later that the arrangement could very well be working the other way around, but they didn't have time to think about that before shaking the stranger's hand and hightailing it out the apartment with them in tow.

Having made little to no progress with his own agenda, Dabi went his separate way to try and hunt down his missing boss. Hanta had a feeling that wouldn't be the last they saw of the Villain, but he could wait until another day to address that.

Because right now he had Hitoshi storming into the house, face like thunder, shouting about how could they be so insensitive and inconsiderate? Kaminari is your friend! He's been through so much shit and to not be given the single consolation that I was alive. Especially when- What kind of brothers are you?

Thankfully, Hizashi had been on hand to diffuse the situation, almost having to manhandle Hitoshi out the room for a breather.

Hanta could feel a pressure building behind his eyes. It couldn't possibly get any worse than this, right?

Wrong.

Midoriya and this supposed traitor of Blue Crossed - whom they'd taken to calling Grey ("But his eyes are grey. It makes sense!" Midoriya exclaimed passionately on the way home. Grey just shrugged, indifferent) - were loudly debating the best Pro Hero, the latter with a little less fervour than All Might's successor. Hanta could already see their friendship blossoming, even without knowing who was below that hood.

"Tell you what." Neito muttered into his ear as the blond sidled up next to him, leaning against the wall. "A thousand yen says Hito and Kaminari will be official by the end of the month."

Hanta sputtered. "You're making bets now? Shit has hit the fan and you're wondering about Hitoshi's relationship?"

"I mean, it's more interesting than yours." Neito quipped. "No offence."

"How is that not offensive?" Hanta snapped. Then his heart lurched. Iida. God, he hasn't spoken to his boyfriend in... what, two weeks? Wow, he didn't even know, that's how shitty of a partner he was. Guilt clawed at his insides, making bile rise up in this throat and threaten to spill. He should call him. He needs to call him. If not for himself, then for Iida's sake. It was unfair on so many levels to leave him hanging for this long.

Hanta quietly slipped from the kitchen when Neito got dragged into the hero debate, and went to find a quite spot in the house to make the call. He ended up in his Pa's bedroom, staring at a photo of their wedding day when he pressed the phone to his ear, the dialling tone setting off a flurry of nerves. Not the kind when they had just started talking and everything was new and exciting, no, the kind you had when you knew you'd fucked up and were about to face the consequences.

"Hello?"

Hanta's heart leapt into his throat. "Tenya. Tenya, hey."

The was a silence for the line. Then, "Hanta?"

He laughed nervously. "Yeah. It's me."

As the quite stretched on, the anxiety pooling in Hanta's gut had him second guessing this decision. "Erm, if this is a bad-"
