Shinobu knew they had no ginger she knew they'd used it all, however she never could say no to her sister especially when she gave her that signature smile. As she stared at the pile on her plate that her sister had served up she couldn't help but at least try some. For Kanae's sake. Forcing down a few bites before giving up she just stared at her deflated sister.

"It seems you were right, sorry Shinobu." She whined before giving up and just asking Aoi to make something.

" I told you to just let Aoi do it. Now you've wasted all that rice!" Shinobu remarked, scolding her "beloved" sister whilst puffing her cheeks.

" Don't be like that Shinobu, you know you look so much more adorable when you smile." She retorted whilst pinching her cheeks with that vice grip of hers.

" Or I'll just go to the festival alone again. You wouldn't want to miss out now would you?" Kanae teased, laughing internally as her sister tried to pry herself away.

" nee-san don't tease me like that, it's not my fault you don't know how to hold back!"

"Oh shush"

That evening

" Shinobu, are you ready? We're running out of time!"

"Yes, yes just give me a second."

As her adorable little sister stepped out of her room, all Kanae could think about was how grateful she was that she'd finally agreed to wear the yukata that she'd picked for her.

"Ahh, you look adorable. My little Nobu" Kanae screeched as she locked her sister into a death grip hug.

" Let go of me, and I'm not little!"

"Don't be like that shortie, you look great."

As veins became visible on her sisters head Kanae backed off a little, and offered an apology knowing that if she didn't then she would be going to the festival alone again. Despite only being a short walk away from the butterfly estate it felt like miles, as Shinobu refused to say another after her sister had mocked her height. That seemed to change though as they finally arrived, the streets lit up with what seemed to be hundreds of lanterns. Bustling with people visiting the various stands seemingly selling anything you could think of. Shinobu's purple eyes wide desperate to take in all the sights. The small wooden stand selling dango, mochi, ramen and anything else you could think of. The small wooden carvings near the entrance, the wooden masks of seemingly every animal you could think off. What seemingly caught her eye however, was the small table tucked away down an unobtrusive alleyway being ran an elderly married couple. Selling what looked to be handmade silver jewellery.

" care to take a look miss? We've got a great selection this year." The kind old man spoke, his voice full of kindness.

" all hand made of course." His wife added, practically glowing as she shot a smile at the two sisters.

"Nee-san look over here"

" woaahh, they're so pretty! Did you make these yourselves?" Kanae asked, the elderly couple clearly appreciating her eye for jewellery.

"Of course"
"All hand made" they answered in a perfect harmony, the kind that took a lifetime of love and care to accomplish.

Shinobu picked up a small necklace with half a butterfly dangling from the end, before asking why it looked unfinished.

"That's a special piece. You wear one, and you give the other to someone you truly love and care for. They come together you get them both for 2,000 yen" the elderly woman answered before the couple pulled down their scarves. Showing that they had the same necklace. Without a word Kanae handed over the 2,000 yen to the couple and took the set.

"Turn around." She said beaming at her sister before forcefully spinning her around, and hooking the necklace into place. As she turned around Shinobu saw her sister was already wearing her half.

"Now we match!" She said with her signature smile.

Shinobu didn't remember much after that, spending most of the festival staring at the necklace her sister had placed around her neck. Much to Kanae's delight. They walked around visiting various stools before finally settling down on a bench.

"The fireworks will start soon, they're always the best part, just so pretty." Kanae said whilst staring of into the distance, waiting for the highlight of the evening.

"Nee-san"

"Hmm?"

"I love you" Shinobu said showing her sister a genuine smile for the first time since their parents died.  Kanae's eyes widen as the fireworks started filling the sky with vibrant blues and reds. Unable to take her eyes of her sister, knowing that she'd never said those words to anyone before.

"I love you too Shinobu." She whispered as she finally turned to look at the fireworks filling the night sky. For the first time in a long while. Truly happy. Yet happiness never stayed long in her life. Kanae knew that, but unlike her sister she chose to appreciate it while it lasted. To love while she still could, to live while her heart was full.

Unfortunately for the two butterfly sisters, happiness was a luxury they could rarely afford, and even when they could. Their would always be someone to take it away.
