2 years later
With the help of the ever airheaded water hashira, her promise finally started to seem like a reality. She had passed the final selection, and taken her first few steps (closer to stumbles) towards finally killing the bastard that stole her sister. Satisfied with her progress Shinobu decided to move on to the second stage of her plan.
She was going to find out who killed her sister.
Her poisons were more potent then ever, her reflexes sharp and her senses keen. She was finally ready, she had received her custom made nichirin needle and was awaiting the orders for her first mission. But no order came. Shinobu wasn't bothered by this however, as she had a lot she had to do. The butterfly mansion was overflowing with injured slayers, most of which required her help as their injuries were too severe for Aoi.
"I've stitched the gash on his stomach, and disinfected the wound. Did you take notes this time Aoi?"
"Yes Shinobu-sama, sorry to bother you with this." The younger girl replied. It wasn't really any bother, Shinobu needed a way to pass the time. Unsurprisingly the water hashira was late for their training again, or he just wasn't planning on showing up. She cursed that man every day of her life wishing that any of the other hashira had been at the mansion that day. His smug face and arrogant attitude haunting her every time she saw him. With the help of any other hashira she would've progressed a lot quicker, but no. They all either ignored her requests or flat out ignored her. Those bastards at the top, thinking themselves above everyone else. They were just another wall she'd have to overcome in her plan for revenge.
"A pretty small hurdle though" she thought, laughing at the idea of hitting Tomioka with a hammer.
"What was that Shinobu-sama?"
"Oh, nothing dear!" Shinobu panicked not realising she said that out loud.
Luckily before Aoi could question it any further, her messenger crow arrived, as loud and obnoxious as these feathered beasts normally are.
CAW! CAW! KOCHO SHINOBU HEAD WEST! CIVILIANS DISAPPEARING! CAW!
"Ara my first assignment, I'd better get going then Aoi. You'll be ok without me right?"
"Of course Shinobu-sama, I'll take care of everything here." The ever eager butterfly girl replied.
That girl was going to work herself to death one of these days, but that was her choice. She'd been told many times by Kanae not to take on so much responsibility but she just wouldn't accept it. She seemed to take on more responsibility after Kanae's death, asking Shinobu to teach her how to help treat the patients. Gathering her things quickly, she was about to leave until she was stopped by her "sister"
"Are you leaving now? I head the crow."
"Yes Kanao, take care of Aoi and the others while I'm gone ok?" Shinobu replied showing the smile she practiced for so long.
"I will"
"be safe please." Kanao said in almost a whisper.
"What was that, you have to speak up Kanao no one will hear of you keep whispering like this!" Anger started to creep into her voice and tainting the smile her sister had loved so much.
She wasn't surprised by the lack of a response. This girl and the water hashira were uncomfortably similar in that regard. Brushing it off she left for her first mission, excited to finally prove test her poisons in battle. Since her sword was custom made their were a lot of unknown variables that her swordsmith had to improvise on, so she was excited to finally test it out.
"If only it was ready before final selection, maybe then I could've fought a demon instead of just hiding the whole time" Shinobu thought, her pride still wounded.
3 hours later
Finally arriving at the village, she noticed just how small it was. Combining that with the lack of people made the place look almost abandoned.
"Hello! Is anyone here!"
"Shhh get inside quickly! He'll be here soon!" One of the villages the voice barely a whisper.
"Who will be here soon?"
"Be quiet, he'll hear you if your too loud, just hide otherwise you'll be taken as-well" the village replied tears starting to form in his eyes. Shinobu was unsure if they were from grief or fear, but it didn't matter. She had a job to do. The one they're referring to has to be the demon. Shinobu almost chuckled at how easy this had been. The hashira all complain that gathering intel is hard, yet she'd only been here a minute, and she had all she needed. The demon will be here soon, and she'll put the monster down just like she practiced.
Conveniently the demon had arrived. It stood tall with a muscular frame, sharp bone-like structures protruding from its back. The demon growled at her, seemingly unable to communicate in anything else. Shinobu readied herself, a genuine smile spreading across her face as she made her move.
"Insect breathing dance of the bee sting: flutter" she mumble as she launched herself at break neck speed towards the demon preparing her needle for a single thrust. Until she felt it. A shape pain in her left side that stopped her dead in her tracks. Looking down, she'd been grazed by one the bone-like structures seemingly appearing from underground. She had no respite however, as the demon launched its counterattack charging at her her. It's eyes glowing with hunger.
Shinobu pulled dodged to the right, as the pain in her stomach grew stronger jolting her focus straight back to her injury as she landed. As her attention left the demon it turned and launched another attack, this time the bone-like structures shot towards her in a spiral grazing colliding with her sword as she barely managed to block the attack. The weight behind it though forced her back causing her trip face down into the dirt. Not wasting a breath though, she rolled to avoid the follow up and launched herself into the air before bouncing of a nearby tree. Preparing her next attack, any trace of a smile now gone. Her eyes burned with hatred as they met the glossy coals that made up the demons eyes.
"Insect breathing butterfly dance: caprice" she mumble before launching herself towards the demon, making 6 cuts throughout it's body. Injecting as much poison as she could manage in her injured state. The monster turning to look at her, before it started. Laughing?
"Not...cut...head...weak" the demon spoke before it started to choke, it's muscular frame starting to spasm before turning a dark purple.
"Go to hell, you bastard!" Shinobu spat, with seemingly enough venom to finish the creature off. Watching it die, as she passed out.
"Why, why are you doing this, don't you remember me!"
"Why would I remember such an insignificant little insect, he has given me purpose, and that purpose is to wipe you all out!" A concealed figure spoke, Shinobu straining her eyes to try and make out any details, but before she could see it's face.
She woke up.
