Cold tears stained her eyes as she prayed them open, hundreds of thoughts filling her head. Who was that women? How did she know her? Why was she so familiar? All questions that circulated her mind, but no answers came.
"Another of those dreams"
"They never make any sense"
"I never understand them until it's too late!" She thought as she felt more tears stain her face. Many would consider these dreams an opportunity to change the future, but they never revealed enough. She was being taunted, some sort of higher power was just toying with her giving her a glimpse of the future but never quite enough to do anything about. Whatever god was behind this was cursed many times that morning.
"Shinobu-nee your awake" a quiet voice stirred her from her thoughts
"Hmm... oh Kanao, how long was I asleep"
The younger girl didn't answer instead choosing to leave the room, returning shortly after with Aoi.
"Shinobu-sama your ok" the blue eyed girl wrapping her arms around the bed ridden slayer.
"Ara Ara Aoi of course I'm ok, did you think I was going to just give up so soon?"
"N-no of course not, I was just worried"
Shinobu's heart twanged a little with remorse, she could see Aoi had taken it upon herself to run the butterfly mansion in her absence. Disheveled hair and tired eyes told the story Aoi was unwilling to say. Apparently she'd been unconscious 2 days, which wasn't a lot for a regular slayer, but 2 days for Shinobu was probably around a week for a regular slayer. From treating patients, developing new poisons, her own training and more recently Kanao's training a lot of responsibilities went unfinished. Aoi had done everything she could for the current patients, but some required more specialised treatments that she couldn't complete.
"Aoi... how many patients still need treatment?" Shinobu asked, silently hoping their wasn't many. She could manage to treat a few, but in her current condition she wouldn't be able to help many.
"2 Shinobu-sama their was more but..."
"I understand" Shinobu spoke before Aoi could finish, not wanting to hear it out loud. They were gone, dead because of her arrogance. If she had been more careful, I'd she hadn't just charged in then she wouldn't have gotten injured. Maybe then they would be alive. She didn't want to know how many lives were lost because of her, she just hoped it wasn't many.
"I'll treat the 2 that need it, could you show me them?"
3 hours later
Shinobu simply started at her self in her mirror, she had moved from the medical ward to her own bedroom so as not to take up space. So many thoughts swirled through her head and none of them could. People had died because of her. Aoi no doubt had to watch as they did. All because she was too arrogant to even consider then possibility that she could get injured. She'd killed then demon but at what cost. Kanae wouldn't have gotten hurt. Kanae wouldn't have let people die. Why couldn't she be more like her. Why couldn't she have died instead.
Shinobu's thoughts spiralled more and more, her hand clutching at her sisters haori as tears start to form for the 3rd time today. Kanae wouldn't be crying. Kanae could control her emotions. More tears fell as her grip tightened. This haori doesn't even fit properly. She doesn't deserve to wear this. It should've been buried with her. Spiralling deeper and deeper she grabbed the nearest vial of wisteria poison, tearing the lid off. Kanae wouldn't resort to this. Kanae wouldn't poison herself. Hand shaking, vision blurred with tears, throat burning from holding her cry's. She drinks the vial.
