sam's pov.I watch as the pale as a ghost white man is being carried to the nearest ambulance. He's dead, nobody can tell me different. His face and body screwed like someone murdered that man. I can't even recognize who this is.
"Does anybody know who that ghost is?" Jaime asks from besides me, he's impatient as always.
"Jimmy Harmson. That guy from the fish restaurant. His wife, Maria reported him missing after the hurricane." a girl of our school tells Jaime, who just nods. He probably didn't even listen.
I give Sabria, Crew and Nayeli a knowing look and they all nod at me, Nayeli wide eyed.
"That fucker had a brand new Riva. Everybody's searching for it, 40 thousand for the person who finds it, someone said. Don't know if it's true." a boy, smoking weed, next to Sabria says. Almost just to himself.
How come nobody says anything that a minor is smoking weed here? In front of the police.
We all share another look and even Jaime now realizes what this means.
"Yes, he was found with that purple surfboard over there." the girl points at an old, dirty, purple surfboard. I frown, I didn't know Mr. Harmson was a surfer.
I see Crew, Sabria and Jaime sharing a look with each other. What do they know?
A loud bang caused by a hammer is heard and we all turn our head in the direction of the overly loud noise. A police officer hangs a big, wodden sign up with the words 'marsh's closed' written on it.
"Marsh's closed?" Jaime reads out loud, confused.
"Temsie. Now." Nayeli says as she stands up and walks away from us. What going on now? I immediately follow after her.
"Hey, Nayeli wait!" I yell after her as I grab her arm. "Where you going?" I ask her as I hold her hand in my, walking together.
"Temsie, we're in deep shit, Sam."
Sabria is the last one to walk through the door of our beach hut. She's frustrated, I can tell.
"We don't know anything, okay? We won't visit the marsh until the signs taken down and we're not playing little detective's. We never saw that Riva, we never found any keys, we're fine." she says as she runs a frustated hand over her forehead.
"Jeez, calm down." Jaime tells her as she sits down on the ground in front of us.
"I have to agree with Sabria. We'd be in deep shit if the officer's find out we were lying to them yesterday. Not just that." Nayeli says as she puts her hand on mine again, squeezing it.
I hate drama. I can't risk my education for this dumb ass mystery now. I just got a new scholarship, and I aorked so hard for it. It's not worth it. Not at all. "I second that." I say.
Jaime rolls his eyes ta me in annoyance, but I know he doesn't really care what we think. He does what he wants, with or without us.
"Third that." Crew lifts his right arm in the air, his gaze still on the laces of his shoes.
I sigh, we aren't really sticky tigether right now. I think that's what Jaime likes to call it. Sticky together.
Speaking of Jaime, he rolls his eyes at us as he stands up and walks into the middle of the veranda.
"Whatever. But come on. We know too much to just give up now." he says.
He looks at Sabria with his bad puppy eyes, like that will change anything. It won't. Sabria and Jaime may have known eachother the longest but Sabria won't get weak for him. Especially not his really bad puppy eyes.
